Forums - Sales - what will happen to wii when PS3 and 360 reach a price point of $275 ?

So...how many times have we had this thread?

Like everyone said, the 360 is already cheaper than the Wii in EU and it's not having any effect on the Wii. It's not the price point, it's the innovation and games itself that is making it sell.

Besides, the 360/PS3 aren't going to get that close in terms of price. They're much more expensive to make than the Wii and it's going to take them years before they achieve that point where third parties are likely going to support the Wii mostly so it doesn't matter. Not to mention Wii sales will be far beyond PS3/360 sales.

well if 360 gets to 199$ in the U.S before wii then it might affect it a bit

But the Wii can always go cheaper brute.

here is spain the 360 is really really cheap. Wii is 250€, x360 core/arcade 200€, PS3 + GT5P 400€, X360 premium 270€. Recently we have a deal in a famous store where you can get x360 elite plus 5 games (piñata, gears, PGR4, halo 3 and ninja gaiden 2) for 360€

dam...i thought the core 360 was discontinued from the worldwide market

Absolutely nothing.

Nintendo might laugh a little harder, but that won't affect sales.

Wii 2 would have come out

nothing will happen, a ps3/360 price cut will not effect the wii at all just wait in see.

Nothing really.

They'll get more sales as would be expected by product elasticity...(sp?)

However it won't effect the Wii.

As the Wii will have already cleared out the $285 or under crowd that wants to buy any videogame system.

That's the importance of coming out at a comprable price to your competitors.  While your up top making some money (or in Sony's case losing it.) on the high end market... the other systems are clearing out the basement.

So when winter comes you look in the pantry and you find yourself stuck with nothing but an old can of beans.

honestly because the 360 is cheaper than the wii in EU already I don't think a price drop will affect the wii in any territory even the us. The ps3 however will probably boom when it hits this price because of its cross territory appeal. i have alot of american friends who have a 360 and are just waiting for a ps3 price drop to get it. The Wii is a fad which will ware off i have one and play it often but not nearly as much as my ps3. the features are limitless and when it does get down to a mass market price point consumers will realize this. In the coming years the kids who bought the wii will began to want more out of gaming and this is where the ps3 and x360 come in and we will see the playstation brand drive the ps3 through these next few years.

People spend the most on software so the price of harware is not very important actually.
