Forums - Nintendo - what do you think was a bigger risk for nintendo:DS or Wii

The DS. When Nintendo released the Wii, it already had DS dominance under its belt to show that gameplay still trumps graphics after all these years. When the DS was released, Nintendo had no such assurance; all it knew was that it had been failing ever since it had tried to go graphics-are-everything with the N64.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

^do you think they would of released wii with motion controls if DS failed

Nintendo doesn't take risks. They take names. Reggie told me one time.

The DS had much more to live up to when you consider that Nintendo has always dominated the handheld business and Sony had just released the PSP.

DS. Handhelds have been a huge source of revenue for them pretty much since the NES/SNES time period.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

Personally I think both were risks but not as big as many people think. It also would help if the OP define his meaning of failing. If last place is his meaning of failing then is it really failing if you still made a profit. I would like clarification on the OP meaning of failing in the consoles or handhelds business.

I love fighting games !!! Come on challenge me !
