Forums - Nintendo - what do you think was a bigger risk for nintendo:DS or Wii

I don't quite get the DS arguments. The DS came out in 2004, two years before the PSP and the handheld wars. There was little to no risk because Ninty could've gone back to the drawing board completely and still made it out ok.

With the Wii, Ninty was coming off a pretty embarrassing third place finish in the previous generation and they were introducing something pretty new to the industry and attempting to make it a standard for their new platform. The Wii probably had higher R&D costs based off of what I believe to be common sense, but I don't have the numbers to back that up.

Wii was a bigger risk, they couldnt have been sure that motionsense would take off, if it hadnt they would have struggled especially after the gamecube fell to 3rd last gen. DS was a slight risk, but the PSP would have struggled against it anyway as Nintendo had a massive monopoly on the handheld market.

the DS, because if the DS failed then they know the consumers don´t want innovation.

but then they could of just went back to gameboy, but with wii their would of been no going back

^but the palystation brand wasnt known for hand-helds and ninty always dominated that

yeah just like they dominated the consoles until sony and playstation came about, after the huge success of ps2 the playstsation name was way stronger then gameboy or nintendo.

if nintendo made another gameboy against psp it would've lost, psp would probably be more powerful it would had more 3rd party support, at the start of the handhelds gen psp had the better 3rd party support then ds if i remember correctly

^yeah it did,but your saying that the playstation brand was very popular,im saying then what if after the snes ninty named its next console with gameboy in its name, would it have been succsessful, since gameboy was very popular around that time

^ no, at that time nintendo was arrogant and high from winning 2 gens in row, they pissed off all the 3rd party, so even if they named it gameboy it would still fail

yeah i guess you could say that, nintendos arrogance is what made them lose
