Forums - Nintendo - One great thing about Nintendo is they don't care what anybody says

Nintendo: Wii is a revolution. We are designing Wiifit as wide appeal.

Ps360 fanboys and analysts of them: Nintendo's 07 E3 was whack. Dominance in 08 is for the Hd consoles.

2008:

Nintendo: Wii is still a phenomenon. We are still making money.

Fanboys and Analysts: Wii is getting caught in Japan. (when it really is not by any means.)

Nintendo, to the fanboys: I don't see you guys making any money.

Nintendo are so clever and secretive. That's the way. Otherwise, the "wii" would have been the "360" as Moneysoft would have copied it anyways.

Of course Nintendo care about what people say. People want another mario another zelda etc.. guess what. Nintendo gave it to them. How many people complained about cel shaded Zelda? The next one wasn't. Not everyone wanted motion controls in every game. Use the cube controller or classic controller (hello mario kart). Like any good money making company, they know when to listen to fans, and when to pump them for cash. Do you really think at e3 Nintendo are going to completely ignore all the games the core fans want?

You could pick out examples from Microsoft that make them look like they don't care about what the customer wants either. Let me attempt.

For microsoft.

Point 1. Give us a blu-ray add-on drive. No.

Point 2. 360 built in wifi. No.

Point 3. Free Live. No.

Point 4. Too many SKUS!! Tough.

Point 5. Classic Banjo game. Seems to be based around making cars and planes etc...

You can argue about this point if you want. But I think a large part of the Wii being so different was because Nintendo simply aren't enough focused on technology to push out a console that could compete with the 360 and PS3. Kinda like they were forced to go in a different direction. Not to take anything away from the Wii. I don't think Sony or Microsoft would have taken the plunge this gen on motion controls. The company with the greatest sales will always listen to the customer. A la Nintendo with nes to snes to N64. Just like Sony did with PS1 to PS2 to PS3. Whoever loses each gen sales wise will generally be the most innovative next gen.

Yes

Nintendo is making loads of money right now so that attitude is easy to have.

In the snes era they were attacking the genesis with ads (after sega attaced them in commercials) saying that you don't need a 32X to play amazing looking games on the snes and saying how sports games are better on the snes.

So they cared how their public image appeared...

Its easy to pretend you are untouchable when you're number 1...infact its part of the role of being number 1.

People don't always know what they want, let alone what they need. Look at the Wii, who on Earth would have said they needed that? Yet Nintendo built it and here we are. The internet is also home of the vocal minority, the small group of people who complain the loudest yet make up the smallest percentage of customers. It's like how the whole internet seemed to bag the Wii for its graphics. Frankly, the silent majority didn't care, at least that's what the sales show.

Nintendo's strength has been to pick fairly well when it should listen and when it should stay its own course. Whie the main Zelda games did revert to a more realistic look, the DS Zelda did not. The problem with Sony and Microsoft this generation is that they are trying to tell customers what they should want, even when all of the evidence points the other way,

As a kid, I hated Nintendo for that. Even in the SNES days, and especially the N64 days, Nintendo always made the game they wanted to make. Years later, it started to make sense.

Questions:

1. Phil Harrison used to work at Nintendo? Didn't he hate the DS idea and wanted to keep the name Game Boy?
2. Again Phil didn't think the PS3 would be a win, if I read correctly he wanted Sony to target Nintendo's market from the get go.
3. 4D graphics = pwned.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

I have question is anyone fan of electronics can show IBM what they need to do for the future ? come 'on ! please how can they blow out our mind if they don't care about what we need what we love to play I have to be superhuman to accept that Nintendo doesn't care of what I want I don't know how to accept it but all I know I loved, love and will always the company that " is the longest-surviving video game console manufacturer to date " and of course do know Super Mario Galaxy ?

Agreed and also why is it impossible to be innovative and still listen to your fans? This is the first generation that I don't own the Nintendo console. To me the Wii is less innovative then other people make it out to be. Smash Brothers, Pokemon, Mario Kart I've been playing these games for years to be honest I may have outgrown them. Nintendo doesn't care what I think though because Wii fit cash is just as green as the cash I would have dropped on a new earthbound game.

It's just disapointing when you've been a fan of a company for 22 years and it becomes obvious that they don't give a damn.

But that's business.

>>Point 2: The freakish nature of the Wii and DS - Detractors abounded. What did Nintendo have in mind with them? Hardcore fans certainly didn't know.

The switch Nintendo had wasn't by Sony overtaking the market. With each generation they remained profitable while Sony was having losses for each console sold. They say the problem since the SNES/Genesis generation, but didn't work on the solution properly until the Wii and DS.

Nintendo did it right because instead of listening to the fanbase, they OBSERVE the customers behavior. What people say they want and what they really want are way different. By observing the market they can focus on consoles and games that are aimed to perform jobs rather than please customers
