Of course Nintendo care about what people say. People want another mario another zelda etc.. guess what. Nintendo gave it to them. How many people complained about cel shaded Zelda? The next one wasn't. Not everyone wanted motion controls in every game. Use the cube controller or classic controller (hello mario kart). Like any good money making company, they know when to listen to fans, and when to pump them for cash. Do you really think at e3 Nintendo are going to completely ignore all the games the core fans want?
You could pick out examples from Microsoft that make them look like they don't care about what the customer wants either. Let me attempt.
For microsoft.
Point 1. Give us a blu-ray add-on drive. No.
Point 2. 360 built in wifi. No.
Point 3. Free Live. No.
Point 4. Too many SKUS!! Tough.
Point 5. Classic Banjo game. Seems to be based around making cars and planes etc...
You can argue about this point if you want. But I think a large part of the Wii being so different was because Nintendo simply aren't enough focused on technology to push out a console that could compete with the 360 and PS3. Kinda like they were forced to go in a different direction. Not to take anything away from the Wii. I don't think Sony or Microsoft would have taken the plunge this gen on motion controls. The company with the greatest sales will always listen to the customer. A la Nintendo with nes to snes to N64. Just like Sony did with PS1 to PS2 to PS3. Whoever loses each gen sales wise will generally be the most innovative next gen.
