Motion controls looked frikkin sweet.

The peripherals!
Actually it was the fact that I saw some videos and demos with games like WiiSports and Red Steel (which turned out to suck) and realized the crazy potential with the wiimote. That and I like shooters so me being the idiot that I am, I thought with the wiimote the Wii was sure to get some quality shooters. Boy, have I been disappointed on that front so far.....
Hopefully that will change soon enough with the Conduit and CoD5 if they use MoH:H2-like controls.
Still not disappointed though. I enjoyed TP (not as much as OoT but that would be hard to top) and I think I liked SMG even more than SM64 so overall the Wii's been a blast.
I did own a Gamecube but before the Tokyo Game Show in 2005 I wasn't going to buy the "Revolution" ...
The reason for this wasn't that I didn't love my Gamecube, in fact the exclusives on the Gamecube were my favourite games of the generation, it was because I didn't think Nintendo could compete directly against Sony and Microsoft because they didn't fight fair. When I saw the Wiimote at TGS 2005 two things became instantly clear, it looked amazingly fun to use it and Nintendo found a way to change the rules in their favour.
I bought the Wii because I knew it would be a fun and unique experience which I would not be able to get anywhere else.
I skipped the GC even though it had a handful of solid games I would have bought for it (and have since buying a Wii). Partly because the N64 turned me off to Nintendo consoles in the previous generation, but mainly because I just wasn't gaming enough to bother with a second console (other than the GBA SP).
Like millions of others, I bought a Wii for Wii Sports. It looked fun, and it was fun, even if it didn't quite measure up to my expectations.
am I the only person who owned a GC but refuse to buy a Wii?

It was cheap. It had motion controls (I really liked the look of Wii Sports, the only Sports game I'll probably ever like). And there were a few games that appealed to me as well.
My last console prior to the Wii was the N64. After that I just lost interest in console gaming. I had played the gamecube at a friends house, but it just didn't seem like anything "new". Gamecube would be the only Nintendo console I never had. The only non-nintendo console I've ever had was the Atari 2600.
Then this Wii thing came out with the new controls, and I got to play Wii tennis at a friend's house and I had to have it. So August 07 I finally tracked one down and now I have one and a plethora of games.
