Forums - Sales - M$ price drop in America will Sony have to respond?

The PS3 has dropped more sales in America this week falling 10,000 behind 360. With the US 360 price drop on the 7th and an excellent lineup for the rest of the year by M$ I think Sony won't have a choice but to drop the price there. I think with the price drop we can proabably see the 360 in america hit 100,000 + weekly and Sony staying around 50,000 a week.

Despite the last 7 months in last place, M$ are in a really comfortable positon. They have an excellent western lineup, and a good chance that the europe sales will rise over the coming months to. Sony at this point could stand to lose any ground made up over the last 7 months. Depends what the japanese sales of PS3 are (the fgures arent there yet) but I expect 14-16,000. Maybe when M$ said earlier in the year that they held cards up there sleeve, it wasnt just PR talk? Your thoughts guys.

PS3 will wait until November before it does anything I believe and probably a $50 price cut is possible. The Xmas sales period is the most important time of the year. one third of yearly sales in Xmas period.

i think that the MGS4 bundle is there response to it,i think thats why it has supply problems sony is holding them back until 360's price drop

The obvious question is, "Are there still shortages of the 80gig PS3s?" If the answer is "yes", then I think it's pretty obvious why the PS3 sales are so low.

Keep this in mind when reading what I type...

I've been gaming longer than many of you have been alive.

There is no spoon. There are no cards. Give up, its over.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

How much is the 360 price drop? I somehow completely missed this.

That is directed at who?

I don't see the 360 sales raising in Europe for no reason. Sony will probaly wait and see how PS3 sales average once the 80GB bundle is in full supply and the effect of the 360 price drop.

Selnor, as delusional as you are, you certainly are dedicated to your console and for that I commend you.

As in go buy us some coffee.

Thus far we get regular reports (See the NA sales thread) of 80GB consoles out in the wild, and yet PS3 sales are still tiny given we are 2/3 weeks from the biggest PS3 exclusive that will exist until the end of next year.

Microsoft on the other hand has a number of high-profile appealing (to Western gamers) exclusives due at the end of the year. We all know sales and profile wise Gears 2 will stomp on Resistance 2 (regardless of quality), Fable 2 is the sequel to a last-gen game that sold about 3 million and every hands-on in existence has been positive.

As for the whole BK3 vs LBP thing? They have as good a shot at promoting sales as eachother.

To answer the OP. Sony will only respond if they can still create the illusion they'll eventually turn a PS3 profit for investors.
