Forums - Gaming - do you care about stories and cut-scenes in games?

Well it makes me feel like I have a reason to play the game. Like in Final Fantasy, I wouldn't go through all those fights for no reason it would be kind of boring. The cutscenes are like rewards. Plus they help to "get into" the game.

With that said, it's not true with every game. I think it's more for RPGs.

So true. I'm mainly a story kind of guy, that's why I didn't mind MGS4's long cutscenes, in fact, I was loving every minute of it. I feel that (good) cutscenes that help the story move along is very immersive, to me. Overly long cut scenes do only work for RPGs, I remember Xenosaga part 1, the first 6 hrs, there was only 90 min of gameplay LOL.

Not at all. They tend to waste my time and when I play a game you can't skip the cut scenes/stories I find it very annoying.

yh, i really cannot play a game with a crap story or a story that does not draw you in from the start, thats why irealy couldnot play bioshock because the story did not draw me in, so i just turned loggef of the game and carried on posting vgchartz

Yeah, I care about stories and and cutscenes. It makes it feel like their is a real purpose to your playing when a story is done well.

I love story based games as long as the story is decent. My interest in cutscenes has waned over the years. For the most part to me they break immersion and take away control. I find myself prefering interactive cutscenses al la Half Life 2 or at the least cutscenes that are drived more from your actions than soley from what the developer wants to show you. Something Mass Effect like.

In a lot of games cutsceens are no longer at the level of eye-candy cgi that they were in the past. Game engines are close to what typically gets rendered as CGI. There is no longer the sense of anticipation I used to get for the "pretty" cutscenes. I'd rather have it in engine to keep the illusion of control over what is happening. I find that brings a far more immersive and involved experience.

1- They have to be skipable
2- The characters MUST HAVE CONVINCING acting.
3- (If available)Voice Acting that corresponds to the game characters emotions
5- Must be crutial to the story
4- #hours in cutscenes

Story is important for adventure type games, unfortunately a good story is hardly ever seen. I mean, gamers are lauding MGS4 and GTA4 for their stories; that are infantile and over-the-top at best. We need some real writers to work in gaming.

Cut-scenes, OK, if they are fairly short and not too frequent. What I really hate tho is if a game starts with a long cutscene, especially if you can't skip it on a second playthrough. When I start a game, I want to start playing, not watch some prerendered bs for 5 minutes!

Pfft, stories are for wimps.  High scores are what it's all about.

yes they make the game better, and help tie in the story. heavenly sword cut scenes were simply breathtaking, and mgs4 cut scenes are simply staggering so a thumbs up from me as long as they are done well.

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

story- when it´s good, definitely yes

cutscenes- when they are well planned, well placed, well written and have good voice overs, then definitely yes. If they fit all the above criterias, then long cutscenes wouldn´t mind me at all. On the contrary, because they would be so well made, I would consider them a present.
