I like Dell, but I'm no connoisseur when it comes to computers and laptops.

Also it depends on how you want to use it. For school, work, just for your house, gaming, etc?

Well, my sister recently bought a laptop, and she did some research.

Thing is, she asked a friend of hers that worked with Dell, he knows about PC crap :P, and he told her that Mac is more quality than anything out there, and Vaio coming in close 2nd place.

it is a good laptop, but if you have a nearby computer store or a frys you can just buy the ram from there and it will be much cheaper, also you shouldn't get the physx card because it actually decreases frame rate and nvidia will release it on there main card via software. also if there is a 8800gtxm option take it, it is better than 8700m sli. 

also look at alienware (it is also owned by dell)

i think DELL cuz i have one with 8600 GT and its run better than my 7800 GT desktop one but i think thats becauze of the core 2 on my laptop.

HP bought out Compaq, so the qualities are the same from a manufacture standpoint, however support for the Compaq models are severly lacking. I have a compaq and was happy with the amount in which I could upgrade it. Personally I don't think Dells have that capability, it seems once yuve chosen yur package, yur stuck with it(If that has changed please correct me). As far as what brand I think is the best literally, since the market inception in '89 Toshiba, from what I see they are still among the best. Alienware is great but as others have said heavy price tag. Thats pretty much the deal, btw I don't know about the European/UK market and what differances their are.
