Forums - Nintendo - What's all the fuss about smash bros brawl?????

first things first, I really don't mean to flame, you guys know I'm one of the most neutral guys on the site. This is just an honest opinion.

OK. So as many of you may know smash bros brawl came out in England on the 27th. I was very excited I begged my girlfriend (I was staying with) to give me a lift in to Portsmouth especially to buy this game. Anyway, you should have seen me I was like a kid in a candy store because I had been looking forwards to this for years. So I got back and loaded it up in the wii.

I decided to give the subspace emisarry mode a go. I completed 9% of it, I thought it was very interesting although I couldn't help think that it was just an extended version of adventure mode from melee with longer videos and a thin storyline. It was enjoyable, but after all the hype I thought it was going to be spectacular.

After this I decided to give single player original mode a bash. After completing it about 6 or 7 times with various characters I couldn't help think that a lot of the old characters hadn't changed much from melee. I was still awesome with Pikachu and Donkey Kong and still couldn't use Samus Aran etc... The moves for many of the old characters hadn't changed either, save for one or two new moves and final smash. Although this mode was still good fun, again it wasn't what I was expecting after all the hype.

At this point I had unlocked a few secret characters, etc...

I decided to give the extras a bit of a go. I have to say that some of them are quite novel. I spent a good half hour designing levels and came up with some fun ones that you wouldn't see in the game. I thought that this was a fun mode to have as it allowed you to break the barriers from melee. The only time I felt this happened in the game.

I still have to smple online mode which I have not done yet, but I am about to.

smash bros brawl is a very enjoyable game but it was far to over hyped for my liking. By the way people talked about it I thought it would be fantabulous. but I just felt that for the most part it was just an extended version of melee with some nice extras thrown in.

Also, how do you unlock Sonic and Snake????

IMO it is the best Wii game out there and my Fav....

Atleast you are having fun with it, I went to my regular shop to buy it this Saturday, but they didn't bring it in yet said it might come in next week (asked for WiiFit, sold out). No Brawl for me this weekend. Got a great book instead, and it's a great laugh.

Yeah, I like the game (not as much as everyone else), but I can tell why people like it so much. As a Nintendo fan, I love seeing Nintendo Characters fight but then I am done with it for a while. It is a very well balanced multiplayer game with tons of things to do, unlike, share, etc...

It's you.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

It is exactly what you said it is, and I agree with you completely.

Brawl is a good game, but Nintendo should have saved themselves some time and just made an expansion pack for Melee. Same result, save time and money.

Get a lot of friends over and mix it up. Use characters who no one who think is good but end up having cool final smashes and some not too shabby moves (Luigi is perfect in this regard). DeDeDe is a fantastic character as well.

Sonic and Snake can both be unlocked through the Sub Space Emissary. Otherwise complete Classic with 10 characters or do 300 VS matches to unlock Sonic, and for Snake you need 130 matches in VS mode or play 15 VS matches on Snake's stage, or so google tells me. Kind of bogus they were hyped so much and then they make you jump through hoops to get them, but what can you do.

Sub Space is really just a way for Nintendo to jam as much much fans service into the game as possible. If that type of thing doesn't do it for you then you're probably not going to enjoy it as much as other people.

As for character changes, things are way more balanced this time around, or at least to the point where it's not blatantly obvious if someone is at a disadvantage. You might not be able to tell the differences right away that were made with characters, but give it some time and you should start noticing stuff.

Also, I can't stress this enough, find people to play with you. I wouldn't have put nearly as much time into this game as I have if my friends didn't play with me.

CIHYFS?

some of the old characters didn't really change too much but thats a good thing imo. and brawls best aspect is its online play. its truly addictive. i have 500 plus hours on brawl and 95 percent of that is online play.

brawl is the most disappointing game for me this generation..
this is exactly how i felt
the story mode is worse then melees adventure mode
in SSE u dont fight.. u just keep on running and die randomly.. how is that suppose to be epic ? :/
comparing melee to the n64 game
melee added lots of new attacks and lots of new charecters and LOTS of levels
i was expecting brawl to add more content then melee did to the smash64 especially with larger teams and more development time..

It really annoys me when people complain about it being pretty much the same game as Melee.

It's a fighting game, what do you expect? Street Fighter, Tekken, Soul Calibur etc etc. They haven't changed at all in the last decade.
