No, it won't., the XBox360 while go up and the ps3 is gonna stay at the same level.. There aren't many people who go in to the store and then decide what to buy.. people do research what product they will buy.. a 360 or a PS3.. it's not like when the 360 is cheaper people suddenly don't buy the Ps3.. of course when a Mom buys a console for their kids.. a cheaper Xbox360 wins.. but the kids wanted a Wii so she returned it to the store.. :)

But ps3 sales in USA are not that big, and go below 40k... with MGS4 80GB bundle, i don`t see that. =)
100% increase of x360 sales, possible in usa.

Gran Turismo 3 - 1,06 mln. in 3 weeks with around 4 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Gran Turismo 4 - 1,16 mln. with 18 mln. PS2 on the launch.

Final Fantasy X - around 2 mln. with 5 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X-2 - 2.4 mln. with 12 mln. PS2 on the launch.

 

1.8 mln. PS3 today(2008.01.17) in Japan. Now(2009.04.30) 3.16 mln. PS3 were sold in Japan.
PS3 will reach 4 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 25k.

PS3 may reach 5 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 50k.
PS2 2001 vs PS3 2008 sales numbers =) + New games released in Japan by 2009 that passed 100k so far

To your comment though, I think the Playstation 3 will have a dedicated fanbase irregardless.  I think with the exclusives coming out, the system will show that it has a lineup that is worth looking at.  I think, honestly, people are waiting for the PS3 to go down to 299.99 moreso than they are the 360.

 

 There are also the significant multiplatform games coming/came as well, like Guitar hero, Madden, GTAIV etc just in time for the start of school. I wouldn't call it insignificant either that the price cut happens about the same time.

I was talking about the people who aren't hardcore, don't visit forums and just want a system to play games. These aren't the dedicated hardcore, because obviously those people already belong to Sony or Microsoft. They probably outnumber the really hardcore by about 4-1 and they are much more platform agnostic.

 I do understand about those people waiting - but they aren't in the market for consoles right now. I was talking about people who are buying here and now rather than when the best blu ray player hits $299.

sc, do you think...or expect the PS3 to surpass the 360´s WW install base by sometime EARLY next year?....or by the end of next year?...or never at all?

That´s something I´m curious to see...while it´s assumed the PS3 will continue to outsell the 360 WW for the rest of the year, 360´s sales won´t remain idle, they might be selling less, but they are moving.

Of course, but it seems to me there is more demand for the ps3 than the 360. It could change, but I don't seeing a drastic one. But then again I didn't see the ps3 increasing so much from last year sales so anything could happen.

Those games with the exception of GT5 probably aren't on the radars of the people im talking about!

Is Deadliest catch coming to the PS3 huh??!?!!? I don't think so.

Anyway, the PS3 will probably benefit from any organic sales increase the Xbox360 makes due to the larger market for HD exclusive multiplatforms.

In any case, I don't think there will be a huge number of ship jumpers, A low percentage anyway and probably nothing compared to the July forward natural sales increase and the organic increase due to the price cut. We may never see the effect...

I think in America that would certainly be the case, most of the big games are on both systems and I'm sure a number of people are going to be more willing to upgrade to whichever system is a better value (BluRay and a larger hard drive will of course factor into the decision.)

In Europe however where a larger MS pricedrop already occurred we can see this clearly isn't the case, Sony Brand loyalty and anti-MS sentiment have ensured that the PS3 and 360 aren't considered equal among a large portion of the gaming population.
