I think Killzone 3 and FF14 will use 6 cores and maybe other games also.

It's not only about how many of the processors you use, Resistance: Fall of Man used about 10% of 5 SPUs. Resistance 2 will already span the workload onto 6 SPUs.

Looking at a past Killzone 2 diagram:

It seems they were overloading the PPU and still had lots of SPU time left on the 4 SPUs they were using. The SPUs are suitable to perform all major tasks the PPU is capable of with hardwork code modifications.

After looking at R2 videos i don't think they are even using 2 cores.

@ MikeB

PPE and SPE, not PPU and SPU.

The PPU is part of the PPE, the SPU is part of the SPE. The SPEs are more than just processor cores, the SPUs are full processors and the SPEs as a whole act as tiny systems on a chip within which the SPU acts as a CPU. This design is where a lot of the potential originates from (being able to perform tasks more independently and asynchronously using dedicated memory as fast as cache operates and high internal bandwidth for communication between the different parts of the chip).

The core game has been completed, they will use the remaining time to mainly polish up its assets.

I agree Killzone 2 currently shows more polished assets, but the game isn't done and the game engine appears to be lagging behind where Insomniac currently stands.

The Insomniac approach seems more efficient in terms of the development process. It will be interesting to see which game will end up on top. They will probably be very different games serving the same gerne, R2 is pushing for 60 player squad battles, 8 player co-op campaign story and massive boss battles, while Killzone 2 is more pushing new lighting techniques, movie-like acting performances like within its bloody death scenes and destructable environments.

Killzone 2 is probably the by far more expensive project, developing hyper quality game assets takes up lots of artistic efforts. With regard to game engine development, a small well co-operating team of expert coders often yield better results than having too many to deal with eachother's coding practices.

And the bigger news that we can take form this: the God of War teams is well under way on ps3 development, so much so that they are now assisting other teams! :D

God of War 3 will definitely be revealed at E3!

yea man,,,,that means santa monica studio knows the PS3 hardware really good.

Could you imagine God of war with graphics close to KZ2?it would be awesomeeee

Damn you Sony, God of War III better not come out too soon, wait until I can justify purchasing the third and final current-gen console to my loved ones. Anyway having the GOW guys and the guys from Insomniac helping out can only mean good things.
