Forums - Sales - DS is no competition for PSP, says Sony

grafix - sound - functionality - games are all better on psp, ds is no match in any way what soever. what the ds does have is, a very high purchase rate amoungst family/child type gamers, and will sell lots and lots in years to come.

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

Today on a 40 minute car ride, I played my PSP and didn't bring my DS. They were in direct competition. I got farther in my PSP game and am now more likely to buy a new PSP game in the near future than a DS game...
They aren't competeting at all!

Almost everyone I know who has a PSP has a DS. Don't know many with DS who have PSP. There does seem to be alot of overlap though.

Of course this is the case, Phil Harrison said so himself back when the PSP was releasing and was made plainly clear by these statement:

"The idea of a handheld rivalry with Nintendo is an irrelevance, those formats don't appear in our planning. It's not a fair comparison; not fair on them, I should stress. That sounds arrogant, maybe, but it's the truth."

"Nintendo knows its target audience, because it has really narrowed that down; and it's pretty much defined by a boy or girl's ability to admire Pokemon."

So they knew from the very beginning that the DS was not even worthy to be considered a serious competitor. The demographics of the DS is obviously pokemon lovers while the PSP is everyone else.

Isn't pokemon Diamond/Pearl for DS one of the best selling games of all time?

Ahhhh... so that means PSP controls 100% market share!

Bolded doesn't matter for a GAMING machine. Now where did you get the idea that psp games are better than ds? It's your opinion not fact and even if this all was true it has no revelance to the thread. Who has the main series dragon quest game coming to it? Who has the more diverse offerings? I bet your answer is ds.

So what about the 59 million that don't own a pokemon game? Wonderful argument. I could say the demographics of the PSP is Sony fanboys/hackers while the target of the DS is everyone else, and that doesn't make it true does it?

According to VGChartz is the 14th best selling game ever.

the psp is quite diffeent, i barely use mine for gaming, i listen to music and watch videos on mine. So Sony may have a point. While the ds is purely for games.
