Forums - Nintendo - Just out of curiosity...

There's been alot of talk of Microsoft, Sony, EA, ect. buying new companies... but imagine this...

Nintendo buys Sega: (Out of all three companies Nintendo has the best relation With Sega)

Nintendo buys High Voltage Studios: (If ninty publishes "The Conduit" and it does very well, I could see
                                                           Nintendo buying them)

What would be your reaction, and do you believe that these two things could happen?

SEGA has too many games in development for PC, the arcades, PSP, PS2, PS3, and Xbox 360 to be bought out now. It could happen a few years down the road, but I doubt it.

But anyway, I love SEGA and I would also love to see them trim the fat (SEGA Studios USA) and get some of their better teams (Sonic Team Japan, AM2) the financial freedom they deserve so that we can see what they're really capable of.

I know Suzuki and Naka are the heads of independent studios now, but they still have close ties to SEGA. A Miyamoto, Aonuma, Naka, and Suzuki collaboration would make my head explode.

The Board is the best site on the Internet.

The first would be result in a mixture of shock and awe.  Sonic is one of the greatest mascots in video gaming history.  The idea that he could return to his former glory makes my inner child happy.  It would be a dark day for Sega itself to be swallowed by its old rival though.

The second would be unhappiness.  High Voltage is not a great dev house.  The Conduit may well flop hard and by hard I mean Lair hard.  Anyone looking to gobble them up is taking a high risk and with the massive hype its gotten, the anti-hype (people disappointed in it not hitting unreasonable expectations) will be huge.  For some reason, people are dumb enough to think that HV is some great awesome studio thanks to a mere tech demo.  I think I'll wait till they make a quality game before making that judgment myself.

I see no reason for them to buy SEGA. SEGA isn't exactly a very good company anymore. They don't make a lot of money - and what they make is on Wii. They're likely to keep going on Wii for a while.

High Voltage is a risk buying. With the massive hype, Nintendo could lose some PR by buying it if it flops. Also, they aren't likely to lead to big sales.

That is VGChartz LONGEST review. And it's NOT Cute Kitten DS

Sega is (ultimately) a very bad purchase at this point in time ... had they bought them in 2001 rather than let them go third party, destroy their reputation, and kill people's love of their classic games it would have been a good purchase.

In my opinion, it would be a good move by Nintendo to enter into an exclusive publishing contract with High Voltage similar to what they did with nSpace and Retro; if they end up being a good developer then it makes sense to buy them (like Rare) and if they end up to be not so great throw them to the wolves (like nSpace) ...

both would be good moves but i dont think the first one will happen, but the second might

tag:"reviews only matter for the real hardcore gamer"

This is sort of a dead time for buying SEGA - as a third-party they're highly functional but the strength of their brand isn't anything like it was last generation.

I admit I don't know much about High Voltage.

That's where I'm at with HV, Conduit looks good, but I don't think that Ninty picking them up would be really good, seeing as they've yet to make an awe-inspiring game (but Conduit does look good).

Sega to Nintendo doesn't even look feasable, since they have so many works in progress already for other platforms.

Console video games is only part of Sega. They also do a lot of arcade stuff where they are losing tons of money.

I don't really don't like expansion through acquisition very much, especially regarding console manufacturers. A lot of the value in these companies lies in the fact they develop on different platforms. Making them console exclusive wipes out a lot of potential revenue streams.

The reason I brought up Sega is because rumors are saying that Microsoft could  buy them to infiltrate the japenese market... in which case it would be smart for Ninty/Sony to gobble them up first... and since Ninty has the best reputation with sega, it would seem logical for Ninty to be the ones to buy them.

As for the quality of Sega's games; Sure Sega's game quality has gone down, but imagine Sega under complete control of Nintendo... NIntendo would be the right company to help Sega off it's feet and back on to the videogame dance-floor! ( Not to mention all the ip's that would become exclusive)

Let's say Nintendo publishes the Conduit, and gives it proper advertising... And It turns out to be good) It's bound to at least reach the 200,000 units mark... AT LEAST. In that case, Nintendo would be smart to purchase the studio to promote more hardcore games... (Like they said, they're planning more hardcore game comming up...)
