If the PS3 didnt outsell the Wii this week when one of its biggest franchises and an exclusive one at that came out, they might as well stop making the PS3 and go back to making walkmans.

Have to say though the game was worth the wait

^it didnt outsell it when GTA4 launched,so it wouldnt really be a big deal if they didnt outsell it this week

I can tell you this for a fact Brute, there are a ton of Hardcore Socom fanatics that are still playing Socom still on the PS2 (because it's all they play, Sad i know) that are waiting to buy a PS3 when Socom comes out. Socom will move allot more consoles than you think. I know the community very well and know it to be fact.

Wii could have easily outsold PS3 this week. If the pattern stayed normal, Wii would have over 200,000+ in America this week.

PS3 outselling or not outselling the Wii doesn't matter anymore, especially not for one week. Do you think anything would be different if PS3 hadn't beaten Wii this week? Why would it have even mattered?

 

Anyway, I am very pleased at these sales, as I was always a bit pessimistic about whether the internet hype would have translated into sales. It's a good story, good for Sony and great for Konami.

 

 

^well they might sell ps3's but i dont think it will sell it in the scale of MGS4

No I agree it won't, but I could easily see Sony getting a boost of50k first week Here in NA alone and another 20-30k a week in the next few following weeks after launch. plus I think the one thing that many people don't understand is the cumulative effect every time Sony adds one of it's traditional franchises to the PS3 Library. Nintendo did a marvelous job of getting their hit franchises out early, and Sony was slower, but now that everytime Sony adds one more of these games it makes the PS3 a greater value to buy. Allot of times people seem to forget that it's all about the games. people just don't buy consoles for the sake of buying one. They buy them because they offer the games they like. I think this is a fact too many people forget. Sony didn't sell 100 mil+ consoles the last two generation purely because people thought they looked nice in their enterainment centers. It's about the games.

Some people here are way too sensitive. Anyway, this is a thread about sales so let's discuss sales.

Great week for the PS3 in America, I wasn't expecting this much hardware. It does seem like some people were holding out for the bundle. I give it a maximum of four weeks before sales are back to normal.

The Wii is getting very low shipments to USA lately, maybe due to SSBB in Europe. I guess there'll be a bigger week pretty soon.

SCEE sucks donkey****. They have the biggest title of this year and what do they do?

Make a real bundle? No
Release the 80Gb? No
Add a Dualshock? No
Give more than 20E discount? No
Make the PSN Stores in Europe suck less compared to the States? No
Drop prices similar to Microsoft? No

Sony needs to get rid of these assholes. PS3 is doing so well in Europe despite SCEE not because of it.

I think MGS4 was horribly overtracked. There's no way it sold more than 10 copies. I mean, have any of YOU actually played the game or see anybody buy it? I sure haven't.

@ rubang, apart from like every PS3 owner (and a lot of people in north London) I have barely seen anyone get it

Very good hardware boost and good SW sales, and a nice little boost for Uncharted
