Forums - Gaming Discussion - Myth of Metal Gear Solid 4 being too much for xbox 360 to handle...

It's not like a multi-disc 360 game is unprecedented, either. Look at the retarded way they packed Lost Odyssey into a barely-modified case. Man, that kind of thing pisses me off.

Uh, excuse the mostly unrelated tangent.

Bastards.

LOL. I know eh... I took the LO copy to the counter at ebgames and they somehow put 4 disks in to it...

First of all let me say that I absolutly love Metal Gear 4. The game is succeding in tying up the stroy of 3 previous games as well as delivering some a few new and interesting gameplay segments. So I don't mean to undervalue metal gear when I say this...

However there is nothing in this game that xbox360 can't handle. Below are 2 of the main reasons people say this cant be ported to 360 (other than contracts Sony may have with Konami ofcourse)

1. Size

Everyone says that if it be ported, it would have to be on 7-8 DL DVD disks. While no one has yet confirmed if mgs4 is dual layer bluray or sigle layer (25 gigs or 50 gigs...4 xbox disks or 8 xbox disks)...lets take that it is infact a 50 GB bluray game...

One must remember that the majority of metal gears size are the cutscences...gameplay alone could easily fit on to 1 DVD and have room left over. Therefore, we must remember that new compression codecs such as x264 are completely embarrassing Blu-ray video and sound. x264 takes a full Blu-ray film in HD, and compresses it to around 2-3GB. With same quality almost (95%). Same could be applied to the games cutscens bringing the game down to 2 or 3 DL DVD's maximum

Also, the fact is that MGS4 does game installs from 2 to 4 minutes between EVER ACT! So you can just stare at the wall for 3 minutes, or you can get up and swap the disk 2-3 times while playing the whole game (if this came out to 360).

So size is not the issue...

2. Visuals

I have not seen ANYTHING visually that makes MGS4 imposible to port to 360. Once cutscenes are taken out of the picture(which look amazing but are not hard to port), there really isn't anything in mgs4 that makes this game stand out visually from other top level visual games on the 360.

None of the structures take damage (other than that Raven boss which was designed specifically with that in mind) other than window and glass explosions, lighting doesn't adjust dynamically (there is shade and then there is sun...sun never moves), the bodes dissapear from the ground and there isn't many characters on screen at the same time...etc. These are the thigns that require lots of processing power... so visually it should not be a problem.

Therefore the only reasons this game can't come to the 360 are:

A) Kojima doesn't want to do it

B) Sony paid for complete exclusive

False.

While no expert, I believe the installs are to get rid of loads during acts, so no, swapping discs wouldn't save you any time.

Personal opinion of yours, it is very likely you know nothing of either consoles capabilities, or the way MGS4 is rendered, therefore you are not the person to be saying that this game is possible on the 360. Having said that, neither am I so I cannot say that it is impossible.

Again, this would be your personal opinion, once you get facts, and numbers, you can come back and either confirm or dismiss your two reasons.

Nice attempt, but please try again.

That's actually how they packed every copy.  They stuck three discs in the usual place on a modified spindle, then put the fourth disc in a little slipcase and shoved it in next to the manual.  I was honestly disgusted when I opened it up.  Of course, I'm a little insane about things like that.

Well, prepere yourself for thefanboy rants, but on topic I agree with you, so far we haven't see any real evidence to support the myth... and most likely we are not going to see it...

So far you havent played the game, so stop trolling

Is not trolling since I'm not bashing the game, I agreed with the OP and none of you have showed any real evidence...

With all due respect, the OP has no evidence either, its just the personal opinion of the poster.

You're far from alone there. I literally started swearing as soon as I opened up my copy. The Japanese and European versions had a nice case that was a bit thicker than usual with pages for the discs. None of their discs were stacked on top of each other or in a ridiculous fucking paper sleeve.

Umm, it's been confirmed for many months now that it's actually a 50gb dual-layer Blu-ray Disc and all of the cutscenes are generated in real-time by the game's engine. The audio is only available in standard Dolby Digital so you can't claim the space is wasted by uncompressed audio either.

Complete and utter FAIL.

Not to burst your bubble or anything...but uncompressed audio takes up a LOT of space.

Not to burst your bubble or anything... But he is saying that it's Dolby Digital, NOT uncompressed audio, therefore you cannot say compressing the audio would save space.

I agree. and Crysis it it's heist quality can be done on the PS3.

Ok, back to reality.

The best looking game ever produced on a console is MGS4. Being it's better then anything ever produced on a 360, what evidence could you possibly have that it could be done?

Oh, and the second best looking game ever made for a console, is Uncharted.

Odd that both of them are not on the 360.

If they wanted to port it, they could. The graphics are nothing the 360 can't handle but they would have to go with compressed audio so it wouldn't sound quite as good (and it does sound very good now). With the cutscenes running off of game engine, that wont take too much space. It might take 2 DVDs, but considering the install load times on the PS3, I would say that the inconvenience would be a wash.

So, the only thing MGS4 would lose by going to the 360 would be some audio quality. However, one thing that might improve is not needing to sign up for a separate account to play online. I imagine it would be tied to your XBL Gamertag.

I would give it about a 5% chance that they port it to the 360 though. I think Sony might even drop cash to lock up the franchise. I wouldn't hold my breathe for a multiplatform version unless Microsoft backs up the money truck.

I give this thread a 9.6.

Thank god for the disable signatures option.

Honestly, how hard would it have been to do something like this:

I just agreed with the OP, then I was called a troll, and he doesn't show any evidence to shut down our opinion (And making valid his claim about me trolling)...

But about the evidence, in the graphics department, is the the best game out there but by a big huge margin like Crysis, in the size of the game we know that the game can be split, we didn't see any kind of comments or anything that show that this game can be only made with the power of the PS3, so by common sense we thought that the game can be ported, isour opinion... is that trolling???
