Japan did not get 80 gb bundles to my knowledge. I believe the MGS4 bundle over there was just the 40gb. I think only America got the 80.

I think the bundles will matter in Japen, there were over 100K bundles available including MGS4. ALso there are the "Grey" Konami bundles wich nobody knows how many were available of.

You expect a console that sells 10k weekly to sell more than 100k in 1 week because of a game release? I cannot see that happening.

Why?

The Ps3 is selling weaker than ever in Japan.
The Ps3 has never topped 100k in Japan. Out of holiday it has barely beaten 50K.
The Wii has 1 single week above 100k out of holiday season.

You could be right though, it is just that the statistics are heavily against it.

Shouldn't this teach us something?

SEGA said 4M for M&S. We laughed at them. M&S sold more than 6M
Kojima said 1M day one. We laughed at him. MGS 4 will probably end above that.

So what do we learn from this?

Mario has a so big incluence, that games starting with M sells much more than they should.

this is sold or shipped because last week i read over 250.000 will go shipped. if it´s sold it´s awesome for a ps3 tittle in japan

MGS4:

NA: 600-730K (GREAT bundle + MGS4 is 3rd person spionage/shooter)
EU: 700-750K (GT5P did great and MGS4 is Full game - a masterpiece)
JAP: 500-520K (100k bundles + DMC4 in Japan ps3+x360 sales were around 300k, so 400k should be easy)

Total = 1.8 million, but there is chance to reach 2 mln.

PS3 hardware Total:

NA: 280K (thnx to GREAT bundle - 80GB+dualshock)
EU: 220K (bundle not so great, 40GB with sixaxis)
JAP: 150K (100k bundle, though 40GB but + dualshock)

Total = 650K

Looks like Japan is CHECKED. =))

Gran Turismo 3 - 1,06 mln. in 3 weeks with around 4 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Gran Turismo 4 - 1,16 mln. with 18 mln. PS2 on the launch.

Final Fantasy X - around 2 mln. with 5 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X-2 - 2.4 mln. with 12 mln. PS2 on the launch.

1.8 mln. PS3 today(2008.01.17) in Japan. Now(2009.04.30) 3.16 mln. PS3 were sold in Japan.
PS3 will reach 4 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 25k.

PS3 may reach 5 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 50k.
PS2 2001 vs PS3 2008 sales numbers =) + New games released in Japan by 2009 that passed 100k so far
