That has more to do with Level 5.....I think they've bitten more than they can chew honestly. They are a small dev team and are tackling on WKS, DQIX, Professor Layton and the Last Time Travel and Insuma Eleven.

Needless to say we haven't head anything from any of these titles in a while. If SCEJ is any smart they'll have Software Emulation BC ready by August at the latest.

I dont know how that would affect sales really but I can see people not wanting to go out in the rain and just put it off the next day.

How long does it take to complete MGS4?
I'm thinking this game is going to be flooding the used game stores very soon and the price is going to plummet on the used game, which will kill any legs this game might have.(see FF7:CC, DQS, etc.)

Most of the big dept. stores in my area had a "clearance" on their non-bundle 40GB PS3s (they seemed to be offering in-store gift certificates to "discount" them -- i.e. buy and get $50 gift certificate to boot) to make room for MGS4 bundles.

The non bundled 40GB PS3s practically flew off the shelves with those deals.. and then the next day, the MGS4 bundles did the same thing. Wild.

 Do not forget the big money Konami recieved to advertise Macbooks, IPods, Ericsson Cell Phones, etc... in their game.

First day sales were higher than I expected looking at previous top preorder data vs. week one data.

MGS2 went from ~469k to 89k on a bigger userbase than PS3 has in week one to week two.

MGS3 went from ~498k to 115k on an even bigger base in week one to week two. 

I'm thinking a disproportionately high number of the games sales will be day one, I wouldn't be surprised at all if it tops at 420k week one, even after a 300k opening simply because 420k is ~20% of the PS3 base in Japan.

Software should behave something like this:

420k-65k-35k-15k-8k-5k-2k

PS3 hw might do something like this:

35k-25k-15k-12k-9k 

Amazing sales , Only if Sony had more software to maintain the momentum.
