I use my psp ONLY for gaming, psp games, psx games and emulation of older consoles. Pretty neat what the open edition firmware can do, thanks to dark-alex and his team.

DS and PSP games have the same price tag or a 5 euros difference, at least here. HD games are really pricey, I prefer spending my money on DS, PSP and some cheap PC games I enjoy instead.

The only person I know who has a PSP never uses it for gaming at all. Although he doesn't use it for much in general, since the battery life isn't all that great.
