With regard to Call of Duty 4 having an ultra short single player campaign, I guess it may well have been due to the size limitations of DVD on the XBox 360, one of various limitations multi-platform game designers will have to take into consideration-Mike B

Well you're certainly acting like one at the moment. I know the ps3 takes longer to develop for, that's why the majority of the ps3's huge hits are yet to come out and the majority of both microsofts and nintendos best games will already have come out by the end of 2007, that's the point i've been making all along. Taking the million plus selling games of last gen that are still exclusive this gen, sony has 16, nintendo 14 and microsoft 6. By the end of 2007 4 out 6 of microsofts best selling franchises will have already been released, 6 out of 14 for nintendo but only 4 out of 16 will have been released for the ps3, that's a huge difference. Then you're talking about new franchises. For the past two generations sony has introduced more successful new ip's then anybody else. So what you are saying is some how microsoft who has a poor track record of introducing new million selling ip's is going to create more of them than sony and as well as that create enough of them to compete with proven software that sells 5+ million each such as metal gear, final fantasy and gran turismo...good luck is what i say.

Also yes they are million selling franchises, but with a console that sold 100 million, its not that hard 1% of total people have it you got yourself a million seller. And going with that, FF MGS4 etc each sold 5-10 million each because of THE BIG ammount of ps2 that were sold. How can it sell that big unless the fanbase goes over 20 million? right now ps3 is sitting at 4 million. What your stating that it will have a much higher attachment rate then ps2, which it should of course, but that high is hard to believe. In all you cannot say that proven system franchises will make a console win, look at what bioshock is doing, 400k is decent sales, but its getting very very high reviews, and its coming from an unproven franchise, but look at the hype it builds for the 360. And as long as you agree that these games will not have ps3 zoom by in 08, then i dont want to argue, i agree ps3 will most likely go past 360 but not till late 09/10 |
Maybe you should have been reading what i have been saying all along. I have never said the ps3 will over take the xbox360 in 2008, ive said it will over take it in 2009. As for the rest of your arguement it's like the chicken and the egg. You think having a high hardware install base drives software sales. I think high quality software drives hardware sales which in turn dirves up the software sales.

@ jimmay: I´d be impressed if MGS4 sells 4 million copys within a half a year, 4 million PS3s I just can´t see. You can only count consoles sould within a somewhat short timeframe of the games release, otherwhise you could claim MGS4 has already sould 4 million PS3s since everybody who has one got it for that game...

I could give a long answer but i'll give the short answer instead. Sony isnt the only company with system sellers, but it has significantly more left to come out then the competition does by the end of 2007.
