For luigi's as soon as it starts head to the opposite diagonal corner to get the 1up. That way you get frustrated as you die but no game over! :-p

after i get 120 stars i unlock a new galaxy right?

I love the feeling of achievement and accomplishment you get from completing those purple coin stages.

Few game elate that kind of emotion anymore.

 No.  Getting 120 unlocks Luigi.  Getting 120 with Luigi unlocks another "galaxy" for both that isn't really a challange of any sorts.  It's just like a victory lap where you run through the intro level while other characters celebrate.

So much to unlock....such a great game!

I totally agree. I gave up on the Luigi's purple coin challenge.

I just got my 242nd star a couple weeks ago. I had a goofy grin on my face the whole time I played that last level.

In Luigi's Purple Coins you only have to get two thirds of the coins. There is 150 of them. Once you figure this out, it's a bit easier. Purple Coins on Dreadnaught and the Lethal Lava Spire Daredevil run were the worst for me. Luigi's Purple coins just looks the most intimidating. It is pretty tough though. I'm not going to lie.
