I think it will get Diamond status in July or August and it will be quite an acomplishment. If it happened we will know it is the best selling X360 game in UK and (if we exclude WiiPlay) best-selling game for this-gen home consoles.

I'm not sure you will get that confirmation when GTA IV on 360 reaches diamond status, Mario & Sonic at the Olympics for Wii could be getting close to 1M and is still selling. I wouldn't be surprised if it passes 1 million within the next 2 to 3 months and it might actually increase sales again going into August with the Olympics coming up.

Yes, both are getting close, but we'll know which one hits first as they are listed in chronological order. Hopefully we keep getting the monthly top tens from Famitsu so we can continue tracking them after they reach Diamond.

There's a bit of uncertainty as to how much M&S is on as it sold 167k in March whilst passing 600k, so it could have been on anything from 600k - 766k through March. In April it sold 91k, so LTD through April is between 691,000 and 857,000. If it's near the top of that range it could pass 1 million in June.

@koffie: You are right. I didn't notice M&S is able to break 1 mil so soon. But its finally slowing down, in April (when it sold 91k) it got following places in UK chart: 2, 3, 3, 3, in May it only got: 6, 5, 6, 7. We also know that it dropped from 167k in March to 91k in April and this trend may follow into next months.

As BKK said the range for M&S sales is quite big so it's hard to judge who will be first but I think it will be GTA.

According to this article M&S reached 500k in its first 7 weeks on sale, so it must have been close to 600k at the end of February.

So it probably was at the high end of the range at the end of April and adding May's numbers to the total will get it close to 900k now. Selling 100k in the next 2 months certainly seems plausible to me, so if it doesn't get to diamond in July it should definitely blow past it in August (with the additional support from the real Olympics)

Around 500k with two weeks left in February. Sega say they've been sustaining sales of around 25,000/week, so should have been somewhere around 550,000 through February. It sold 258k in March and April putting it at around 800k through April. Four weeks in May adds another 100k to that, so 900k through May. Five weeks in June, so it has a realistic chance of hitting 1 million this month.

Mario & Sonic to keep Sega running until Xmas

New UK TV ad amongst huge new marketing plan as top five Christmas place is targeted

Sega is embarking on its first re-marketing of a catalogue title in a bid to keep Mario and Sonic in the UK All Formats top five until Christmas.

The ambitious target has been set after the Wii and DS title clocked up 1.2m sales in the UK since launch last year.

“We will re-advertise this title heavily and continue re-marketing it all through the year,” Sega’s UK boss Alan Pritchard told MCV. “We’ve sustained sales at 25,000 a week. Even GTA IV, Wii Fit and Mario Kart haven’t dented it that much. Importantly, it has held price too.”

A new TV creative is being produced for roll-out soon, whilst Sega is planning for further uplift alongside its launch of an official Olympics simulation game in the summer and the start of the tournament itself in August. The success of Mario and Sonic has underpinned a tremendous period for Sega, which has seen the company rise as high as number two publisher by value during April. A powerful line-up between now and next March has the company hoping it can break into the top five for the year as a whole in the all-important publisher rankings.

Meanwhile, the product portfolio continues to grow, after Sega announced a multi-title tie-up with Japanese studio Platinum Games.

We know the DS version hasn't hit 300k yet (although it's probably close now), so the 1.2m figure also puts the Wii version at 900k. M&S Wii should beat GTA IV 360 to Diamond status. I think 2m is possible long term if they can continue to sustain 25k/week sales with big boosts over the Olympics and holidays.

It's handy to know when looking at the UK charts that M&S Wii averages around 25k.

March sales were quite a bit higher than average due to Easter and school holidays. they were expected to drop in April, so it can't really be looked at as a long term trend. As for chart positions, there was a  lot of really big games above M&S in May, it's quite possible for M&S to have dropped places without dropping in sales.

Take 2/Rockstar’s ‘GTA IV’ remains in the driving seat for a fourth consecutive week, leading the All Formats Chart ahead of 3 All Formats Top 10 newcomers from 3 different publishers.

The highest new entry is MMORPG ‘Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures’ from Eidos at No2, registering the biggest launch for a PC title so far this year as well as the biggest ever launch for an online-only title outside of the ‘World of Warcraft’ franchise. Ubisoft score a new entry at No3 with ‘Haze’ on PS3, while EA’s ‘Rock Band’ on Xbox 360 debuts at No6. Three-quarters of all people who purchased the stand-alone ‘Rock Band’ game at (RRP £49.99) also purchased the £129.99 priced instrument controller bundle. There are now 8 different publishers represented in the All Formats Top 10. Nintendo can only claim 2 Top 10 titles this week (‘Wii Play’ a non-mover at No5 and ‘Mario Kart Wii’ down from No3 to No8) as stock problems mean ‘Wii Fit’ slips out of the All Formats Top 40, down from last week’s No2.
