Forums - Microsoft Discussion - PC ports of 360 games = lower prices, better practicality?

I checked out the new Indy Lego title and it is 30 bucks for PC and 50 for the 360.  Using the 360 wired controller it is therefore easier to buy the PC ports of 360 games and play with the controller.  Does anyone do this, especially with games that don't need Crysis level graphics like the LEGO games?

As long as I am using a controller, I'd rather pay $20 for the convience of lying on a couch in front of a big TV.

While I don't use the console controllers, this why PC gaming rules. We always get the ports from consoles (or multi-platform release) and it'll always be cheaper. If the developer is feeling generous, we also get extra content and some special features. I don't mind waiting for the games to come, and they usually pay off a la Mass Effect.

reasons for console over pc

Screens- for most people the tvs they play on are better and larger than their PC screens
Comfort - not everyone has laptops or couches pulled up to their computer, meaning their computer chair is less comfortable than the couch or chair they could use to play a console game
Graphics - a lot of people have consoles that would make the game look better than their computers

Its convenient and simple.
And 360 gets me achievement points ;)

A little bit extra on cost (far less if you are waiting for a price drop to pick up the game) isnt such a big cost when looking at costs of making the computer experience more enjoyable.

I'm with TotalWar on this one: cheaper costs, extra features, and the ability to mod all make me prefer the PC over the consoles for non-platformers.

That said, updating your PC can get expensive, and it's occasionally a pain to make sure your hardware is compatible with the software.

I still prefer the PC, but I can definitely understand why some folks would feel otherwise.

Screens - You do realize that sitting a couple feet away from a widescreen monitor is the exact same experience as sitting 10 feet away from a big screen TV? I mean...exactly the same.
Comfort- My awesome computer chair begs to differ
Graphics- Wha?? Wrong argument there...

You're ignoring A LOT OF costs when it comes to console gaming, and a lot of price drops on both PC hardware and software. COD4 will probably be $30 in a few months compared to $50 on consoles, and almost EVERY PC game starts out $10 cheaper than PS3 and 360 games, guaranteed.  After buying 10 games in a year I've pretty much saved the equivalent of an awesome graphics card, making the console advantage worthless.

edit: And if you REALLY prefer a bigscreen TV...then get a cable from your PC to your HDTV...any video card made in the past half decade has TV-out and most HDTVs have VGA or DVI anyway. Hauling a big PC tower is only a little step up from hauling all your 360 or PS3 stuff around.

I don't know. PC games are cheaper and for many games mouse and keyboard simply is by far the best input method (FPS, RTS, Strategy). So if I had a gaming PC I would buy games in these categories for the PC.

But games that are played better with a controller like Action-Adventures, Platformers, racing ....

here consoles have some undeniable advantages:

You sit on the couch.
You play on a nice big-screen TV with good soundsystem.
Everthing is easier to startup and there are less glitches and bugs.

And since most games are technically at least even on consoles as on PC these advantages really dominate.

But in the end I made my decision for a console because I didn't want to shell out for a gaming PC so the question doesn't really arise.

It's funny because with the latest gen, there actually are a lot of games that have technical issues like pop-in, texture loading problems, not to mention lag in online games because of the limited online system.

Sitting on a couch and playing on an HDTV is nice, but again, that's not impossible with a PC...most people just don't feel like moving their PC.

And my PC has the best sound system in the house...it doesn't have the wattage of a home theater system, but the quality is unmatched in my house anyway.

The point here is, consoles can be nice for a group to gather around and play on a bigscreen. But if you're playing alone (and let's face it we all play online games plenty of times, it doesn't make you anti-social), nothing beats a good PC setup. My monitor is a higher resolution than any HDTV, my surround sound rocks, my chair is uber comfortable...basically the whole environment is built for me, and playing a console on a TV never feels quite as good.

no, the PC monitor is better, it is a more personal experience.

And that's the only thing I need is *this*. I don't need this or this. Just this PS4... And this gaming PC. - The PS4 and the Gaming PC and that's all I need... And this Xbox 360. - The PS4, the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360, and that's all I need... And these PS3's. - The PS4, and these PS3's, and the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360... And this Nintendo DS. - The PS4, this Xbox 360, and the Gaming PC, and the PS3's, and that's all *I* need. And that's *all* I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one... I need this. - The Gaming PC and PS4, and Xbox 360, and thePS3's . Well what are you looking at? What do you think I'm some kind of a jerk or something! - And this. That's all I need.

that's not impossible with a PC

But its annoying: You first have to connect the PC to the TV via VGA cable or whatever. Controlling the PC is an issue too. (Wireless mouse/keyboard?) When I connected my PC to the TV I had a white line at the bottom. In the end its a crappy solution, needs many workarounds and not many people do it. I tried it. A console just works.

Don't get me wrong I love my PC but I had far more problems with PC games than with the console games. And I mean thats not surprising. Console games have ONE hardware platform to test. For the online system that has gotten much better on consoles I think it can compete with PC now. But yes last gen it was crappy. But last gen consoles were pretty bad anyway: SD resolution, not enough sophisticated games with PC origin etc.

In the end Starcraft2 will make me regret buying a console but this gen consoles are a good alternative.
