Forums - Gaming - PSP and PS3 games - are they really that bad?

I posted this elsewhere, but thought it required a post to it's own.

This is very interesting and should be read by people continually downing all things Sony.

According to MetaCritic (they include a whole host of reviews and scores to come up with a definitive score for each game).....

The Wii has 11 games in the green (75% and above)

The PS3 has 21 games in the green (75% or above)

This is very interesting....the PS3 has the better games that the Wii then?

Oh and this.....

The DS has 57 games in the green (75% or above)

The PSP has 86 games in the green (75% or above)

So the PSP has better games than the DS then?

Prediction (June 12th 2017)

Permanent pricedrop for both PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro in October.

PS4 Slim $249 (October 2017)

PS4 Pro $349 (October 2017)

It is very interesting. quality over quantity huh?

Look at the list of sites Metacritic uses... They're all pro-Sony. Seriously, just look at the list. I've seen this exact same argument used before on other forums and each and every time its been called out on the basis that it uses Metacritic as a source. Face it, the closest thing you're going to ever get to an objective source is the game sales.

An honestly if the Quality over Quantity argument didn't work for the N64 and GC, why do you think its going to work for the PS3 and PSP?

Shame on you Davygee, shame on you, you should have known better than to try something like this.

I don't think people thing the PSP doesn't have good games. At least, I never did. The problem with the PSP is "meh, I've played it all before". GTA, FF, Tekken, Ridge Racer, MGS, etc. I can play the exact same games on a PS2 plus many more with a better overall experience and for a lower price.

The PSP is just a portable PlayStation. Some people may want that, but personally, it's just a bit pointless. I'd rather just buy a PS2, and it seems the majority agree with me. Nintendo knows how the handheld market operates, and that's why they are outselling Sony.

As for the PS3, the only people I've seen saying that it has no good games are PS3 fanboys trying to justify their low sales.

Help! I'm stuck in a forum signature!

Pro-sony? You are really clutching at straws here. Shame on you!

So sources like: Xbox Evolved, Maxim (Men's magazine),IGN, GameZone, Gamespot, Edge Magazine, and The New York Times are pro Sony in your view?

Sony must own the world in your view.  Metacritic is praised as being a very reliable judge of anything from games to movies. Citing the website as pro-sony is absolutely ridiclous.

Here is some praise for the website: http://www.gale.com/servlet/HTMLFileServlet?imprint=9999&region=7&fileName=reference/archive/200404/metacritic.html

How about you list all of Metacritics sources and lets see how unbiased they are then? And praise from sony owned websites doesn't matter much either I'm afraid.

Oh come on.  You can't help yourself but try and knock it down time after time.  All pro-Sony then (GameSpy, GameZone, IGN, Yahoo! Games, PocketGamer, GameSpot, Games Master, 1UP, Games Radar, Total Video Games, Euro Gamer, EGM).  Sales cannot be used as the best source for good games...look at Spiderman 3...also the DS and Wii will have more hardware sales than the PSP and PS3.

I think you will find that quality of game gauged by finding the average of all reviews if the best way.  Also even pro-Sony reviewers won't necessarily rate a game better anyway.  It's all down to experience....yes some do, but not all and not the majority.

The bottom line is that there is a larger selection of better rated games on both the PSP and PS3 than the DS or Wii.

I've already listed some...so what reviewers do you trust...IGN, 1UP, someone else?

Pulling out the few that could be considered unbiased doesn't change the fact that the majority are. Furthermore you should know better than to rely on game reviewers as a substitute for consumer opinion (i.e. game sales). I said list them all, not some. You're only listing the few that benefit your position here. Its the percentage of biased websites they use that make all the difference, aggregating scoring doesn't matter if its skewed by 30 pro-sony websites vs 10 respectable sources.

You really can't go by that.

For example:

Most people rated Wii Sports poorly yet it's the biggest selling most loved Wii game out there.

Wii Play another title hated by critics and loved by fans.

Red Steel got many mixed reviews and yet there are many many people who really like it. I enjoyed my copy, I know many others on here did too. SSX Blur got a few mixed reviews and it was a great game.

DS too despite having generally poorer reviews then the psp, the psp has typically similiar games as the ps2, while the DS has completely original content. Nintendogs, Brain Trainings, Pokemon RPG, your talking about huge franchises that are creative and fresh on a touch screen, and offer no comparable experience on a console. Monster Hunter and Loco Roco are the only two good psp games that don't have a similiar/better console game.(and that will change with Monster hunter 3)

Sometimes people don't want what critics think of as a master piece. They want whats fun and exciting for that system. Besides alot of stupid games get great reviews, like Luminees, Puzzle Quest, Cube, Exit, Crush, Puzzle Scape, Mercury, I hate puzzle games, they don't even sell that well, and yet they boost the average rating for that system, so it's kind of pointless to use this kind of arguement. Besides ps3 software as a whole isn't being challenged it's their exclusive content.
