Forums - Gaming - Best FPS coming out this year that no one is talking about...

I found myself wondering how this games looks so much like FEAR... before I remembered it's the same people behind it. ^^

I think "solid but unoriginal" is the best way to describe how this game looks. Might be good, but I'm not getting terribly excited.

Honestly not as impressive as R2 or Gears 2.

Visually maybe...but based on the sheer dread and intensity level I think it owns both.

I think both R2 and GeOW2 will beat O.R.I.G.I.N. in general, unless Monolith decides to add somethin new and cool to it.

I wont tell you how I feel about that trailer because it can best be summed up using the Zero Punctuation review of F.E.A.R. - Perseus Mandate (http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/zeropunctuation/2675-Zero-Punctuation-F-E-A-R-Perseus-Mandate)

All in all, the best FPS coming out this year is being talked about, namely Resistance 2 ;)

Not so many people talk about the multi-plats unless they are big name games. FEAR always looked good to me, but I preferred Monolith's Condemned series, which are just plain revolutionary, IMO.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

F.E.A.R was ok, but it wasnt in the same league as Halo, Half-Life and Bioshock. It was to sparce, and the slow-mo got annoying. Like most slo-mo games do. Corridor shooters that stay inside are old hat.

First of all...FEAR had plenty of open areas later in the game and while it wasn't as battle filled as Halo, the computer AI is better than Halo's.

Secondly those games listed are amazing but none of them are coming out this year...

Thridly...FEAR was the first to do slo mo in an FPS...and should be reckognized for starting that...evenif all the other copycats made it boring after.

And lastly, here is the metacritic on FEAR when it first came out on PC.

http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/pc/fear?q=F.E.A.R

Anyone saying this wasn't an AAA game is dead wrong.

A.I? When I played through FEAR, A.I didnt even come into my mind. Legendary on Halo, when they flank and what not is far better. In FEAR I destroyed one of those walking mech things by walking in and out of a room. Hardly good A.I.

How good are Monolith when it comes to storyline writing? Looks interesting.

Left4Dead is going to destroy all other FPS this year.

Correction:

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky is going to destroy all FPS on Single-player this year.

Left4Dead is going to destroy all FPS on Multi-player this year.

I enjoyed S.T.A.L.K.E.R., I have high hopes for Clear Sky. The game was a rare gem that we don't see to much anymore.

I really enjoyed playing FEAR. Unfortunately with this many A games coming out this year, its on my B list. Will pick it up if a few other games disappoint.

It doesn't sound like you played much of FEAR as I don't know anyone that went through more than 50% of the game and didn't praise the enemy AI.

Also, for your pleasure , I've pulled out some reviews that praise the AI form the 3 big sites I know...

http://www.gamepro.com/computer/pc/games/reviews/49258.shtml - 1st paragraph.

http://pc.ign.com/articles/657/657310p2.html - 1st paragraph

http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/fear/review.html?page=2 - 2nd paragraph

I'm going to quote this one for you...

"...but you're going to need it against the artificial intelligence in F.E.A.R. Put simply, these are the smartest, most aggressive, most tactically oriented AI opponents that we've ever encountered in a shooter, and they're downright impressive."

I hate being right all the time... :)

The latest trailer didn't really impress me.
Also I had it confused with Project Offset at first, which I was genuinely excited for a few years back.

As for best FPS this year, my friends and I are waiting for Left 4 Dead.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )
