Forums - Sony - MGS4: Not going to get less than a 98

What's the point of a review, if many people are already sold on it?

Around the Network

Well, I agree this is going to be an amazing game.  I also agree though about this....who REALLY cares about the review score?

I've played plenty of "average" and "just good" games (4-7 rated) games that were still fun.  I played Lair and enjoyed it.  I didn't think it should be a 10 by any means, it had faults, but it was still fun.  THAT is what I measure games by; how fun are they?  I DON'T base my purchases solely on reviews.  Just as I've played games rated average, good, even a few poor, that were fun, I've played some highly scored games and found they didn't appeal to me.  So big deal!

Other than possible "bragging rights" for this platform or that, the review scores don't really matter.  Yes I understand that reviews can potentially affect sales, but we have a recent example of a game getting bashed and then selling VERY well.....Assassins Creed.  When it came out it was panned by a lot of critics and there was all this talk about it being a flop, etc.  Then all of a sudden after a few months we hear it's sold over a million copies, etc. So...reviews aren't everything.

I hope MGS4 gets reviewed well and sells well just so it helps continue to prove that big "hardcore" games can sell well.  There's a place for all kinds of games but it's important that the different types do well so that we continue to see their variety. I for one certainly don't want the market to consist of same-type games at some point just because that's all that it's perceived will sell well.

this game is going to be deep no hell. i can not wait to get my grubby little hands on it. Me is thinking that this game is going to get an average review score of above 97.

This game will be AWESOME!!

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

Looks like a definite must-borrow for me. =P

I have to give it to PS3 fans, they certainly know how to set themselves up for disappointment ...

You have a game which will certainly be well received and sell well, and knowing this you hype it up to receive review scores far beyond what it is reasonable to expect and sales which are absolutely unrealistic; this means that when it receives really a really good score (90% to 95%) and good sales it still is a disappointment.

I tend to agree with this assessment, though I do think that rabid PS3 fans aren't the only ones guilty of setting themselves up for crushing disappointment and/or later abuse--it's a disease that generally afflicts fanboys as a whole.

As for the OP, a 98? Are you sure you don't want to revise that down now? We are talking about a 98, cumulative, on GameRankings or MetaCritic, right?

Happy Squrriel: you have a PM.

I don't think reviewers will give it a 98% because they can only understand a fifth-grade reading level, but I hope this game gets near that. I wouldn't even care if this game got a 100. It would probably deserve it.

Plenty of reviewers will mark this game down for various reasons but... fuck 'em. I'll bitch about the scores after I've played through the game two or three times and I've come down from my battle-high.

You might want to watch your language so you don't get banned again.

amazing game

Bragging rights I suppose.
