America is the highest ranked Western world country in the 4 murders per 100 000 people.

Although I would really like to know how big the danger is for normal people. When I stayed in America for an internship I had the impression that there were quite a few murders in the newspapers but they were almost always drug dealers.

Why did you guys think China would be on the list? I know there are likely plenty of people here incarcerated falsely or without just cause but the observable crime rate here is low. It's the only place I've ever been where it's considered totally safe for anyone, kids and women included, to walk the streets alone at night.

Having said that, the fact that China is totally absent from the list suggests they don't provide the statistics at all and just makes it look like they have something to hide.
