6.) Everything Sega did related to Dreamcast: Great system + terrible marketing = dead hardware manufacturer. Maybe for the best in the long run, since Sega can go back to focusing on games. (Wish they'd get back to being very good at that again. *cough*NewPanzerDragoongame*cough*)

I'm going to have to disagree with you on that because their marketing was great, with their "9-9-99," and "It's Thinking!" ads.

If anything, the equation should be: Great system + Missing key 3rd party support = Dead hardware manufacturer.

Yeah, marketing was the wrong word. I was trying to keep it simple, because the problems Sega had with the DC are a whole different can of worms.

Perhaps the saddest thing I've ever seen was at E3 back in I believe 2003. We were waiting outside the theater for the Nintendo press conference and I saw this mopey Japanese kid with a shirt with the DC logo on the front that said "Dream over" in the same font underneath it. I felt like going over and giving him a hug.

The dedication you show to any particular console or company is inversely proportional to the number of times you have gotten laid. If you get laid enough, even if you prefer a certain brand, you just don't give enough of a shit to argue about it on the internet.

I won't add much new stuff, but in no particular order:

3.)  Cartridges over discs and completely shutting out third parties being two of the most glaringly obvious wrong decisions. (Though it did give us the ever glorious Aidyn Chronicles.)

4.) The SNES addon that became the Playstation: Probably a mistake on Nintendo's part, but who knows how gaming would have evolved if it did happen?

 3) How did Nintendo shut out third party support. It was third parties that left Nintendo not that other way.

 4) The contract gave Sony allcontrol over games released for it + all the royalties. Nintendo has no choice but topull out.

Again, poorly worded on my part. The decision to stick to carts drove the costs up for third parties, driving them away to the easier confines of the PS1 and its discs. They were the ones who chose to leave, but Nintendo's decisions were what drove them to it. It the N64 ran on discs, the issue would likely not have existed.  (Though many others would have, and hurt some of the truly wonderful games on the N64. For example Aidyn Chronicles. ;) )

5.) As has been stated, it wasn't the end of the world. It hurt for a while, and made Sony a powerhouse for a decade.

4.) They had nothing to do with that. Philips made the games with basically no input from Nintendo.

3.) Agree on Nintendo's lack of online plan. Disagree on GBA connectivity, as FF:CC and Zelda: Four Swords were incredibly fun multiplayer. (I also am the one lunatic who owns 4 NES Edition GBA SP's and 4 GC/GBA cables. Also 4 sets of DK Bongos. I have peripheral related issues.)

2.) Agree entirely.

1.) Agree. More Earthbound/Mother games = happier me. Also, the follow-up to Secret of Mana needs to be localized for Virtual Console. The ROM version I have of that game is absolutely fantastic.

Just like to add the Game Boy Micro

As awesome as it was, it was released way too late, and could never compete with the DS

keep in mind, the ds is going to be the #1 selling system of all times, the psp having 30% share is very nice. The GG was a failure

i have to disagree the GG was not a failure by any means. it was the only system to actually pull even 2 to 3 years into the systems life against the gameboy and in fact had quite a few really great quality games. then sega pulled out and went with the nomad which was a failure. in fact out of the two gg and psp i myself would much rather still have the GG cause of the games and the fact that it wasnt considered really as a competitor so to speak but to acutally want to help with portable gaming. THE SONY wanted the psp to conqure the gameboy/ds like the ps brand did the previous two gens but i do have to say would the ps1 sold as well if it would've launched same day as the n64? i dont think so. it took a 2 year head start and a massive price drop to even be able to compete against the n64 before launch then shortly after that launch came ff7 which didnt help the 64 at all cause of the delays of games for the console.

if your wondering but the ps1 released at 300?? do your research before you make that claim cause in fact the ps3 was not the most expensive console sony had ever released. it in fact was the ps1. and on top of that the saturn itself was also the same price cause they wanted to compete vs the 3DO and CDI consoles. if your wondering what the price was its this both of those came out at (drum roll please) $799.95 now tell me if they released the same time as the 64 would the results been the same?
