Forums - Nintendo - Miyamoto wants a mature FPS Zelda game not joking

I wouldn't mind a more mature Zelda, aside from Wind Waker, they've steadly touched on more mature and adult (read: not violence and sex) topics since the leap into 3D (despite keeping the cartoony character models).

A FPS Zelda would really not surprise me, given that there hasn't been a major shake up to the Zelda formula in a while and Miyamoto is quite famous for taking franchises "to the next level".

Zelda as a FPS???

HELL NO!!

It's fine as it is the only thing they need to do is to make the Boss battles much more challenging

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

Actually, he could use:

Long Bow w/ Bomb Arrows, underwater bomb arrows, flame arrows, light arrows, ice arrows, etc

Xbow with pierce shot, faster shot, ect.

Bombs of course

Hookshots, Boomberange, Deku nuts and so on and so forth.

The meat is there and could be used in a fps method, but let's face it if Shigeru spear headed an FPS it would probably put every FPS to date to shame, sadly even golden eye.

Metroid was more of a first person adventure game - if they had made it a full blow FPS with a story rather than just a story it would of been weird but probably desired by the consumer.

He doesn't say he wants one. He says he proposed one before.

But if it went through, the Zelda series would be dead as we know it.

Link x Gun should not mix.

He didn't mean link with a gun--he meant Oblivion-style.  Most people just use 'FPS' as a blanket term for all first-person-view games.

If this happened, I'd be taking a 'wait and see' approach, personally.  A lot of fans were apprehensive about the Prime series, but they were pleasantly surprised.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

that was quite an exaggeration you made there
zelda going in a mature direction does not necessarily make it a GTA clone
a good adventure story always starts off lightly but becomes more serious later
so why not the same with Zelda games? since the peace of the world is at stake every game, why not make it feel like a desperate fight against huge odds, rather than an adventure puzzle game, and elaborate a bit on the story?
also character development is a mature touch.why not have that?
i really thought TP was a step forward and they should continue in that direction

Certainly, it was an exaggeration but it was done that way on purpose ...

A large portion of what many people want Zelda to be to become more "Mature" are elements that would take away from what Zelda is. People have mentioned many times that they want higher production values including "Voice Acting" in a Zelda game, whereas people like me enjoy the fact that you can explore and talk to ever person in the game and they all say different things at different times throughout the game; these two things can not be resolved, and as you get more voice acting the game becomes more stale. At the same time, as you move towards a story that is much darker than has already been done in Zelda it becomes very difficult to maintain the style and mythology of existing zelda games ...

In other words, it might make more sense to build a new game using similar gameplay mechanics than to try to change Zelda into something it isn't ...

Metroid Prime always sorta struck me as a futuristic FPS Zelda game anyway, so I don't really see the issue

Oh whoa.

"We figured that Link was the logical choice. Then we argued that it would've been kind of strange for us to give Link a gun, so I proposed a sort of Terminator style story about a time warp from the future, but [the development team] vetoed that idea immediately".

Not sure if I'm glad or not that this idea never went any further.

wow I should of read the article >.> Holy smokes I think Shigeru was exposed to Haze and is now tainted, I want my old Shigeru back! DAMN FREE RADICAL!

They need to stick with monkeys and not with drugs.

Miyamoto's ideas in that article are absolutely horrendous. It sounds like crap we would have cooked up on these forums. Terminator style time traveling Link in Link's Crossbow? Do not sign me up. Thank god there was reason on the development and they vetoed his idea.

Am I the only one who thinks that article sounds really strange, as in not something S/M would say?
