Forums - Sales - Wii: Sony doubts longevity

Very good example John Lucas. Sony is such a caring company, but I think Sony should stop worrying about poor little Wii's longevity and start concerning themselves with the PS3's longevity.

Actually since the Wii is a fad it was originally supposed to die off early this year once everyone saw through its gimmickiness. The fact that they're now saying it won't die off until 2009 is actually quite the victory for the Wii!

I always find it interesting that the Wii is supposed to feel outdated in 2009. This is an interesting concept, since if it doesn't feel outdated enough for people to be buying it now, why would people feel it's outdated in three years time when it's still going to be competing with the exact same consoles?

Help! I'm stuck in a forum signature!

Yea that makes no sense, just the last ditch effort from PS3 fanboys. The Wii is outdated techwise now, the 360 and PS3 are way ahead of it. But guess what? Noone cares... Wii sports will not be anymore outdated in 3 years than it is now, and it will probably still be selling well... When has better tech ever won out over better price / better content? PS2? DS? Even the B&W Gameboy destroyed its competition that was in color. If the Wii sells like it is now through 09 they will be so far ahead that it wont matter what anyone else does.

The wii remote + the speaker WOW it just makes so much sense. Even with such a crappy speaker on the wii mote, it just multiplies the experience. Its like sound comes from everywhere. Playing Mario strikers, the wii remote speaker and rumble was awesome. And it doesn't shake it is more of a like boom. Kind of like the kick when batting. I really hope sony and microsoft add them to there controller too.

The speaker = win.  I can play the practice mode in Tennis over and over, it's great when you get a little kick in your hand and the "WHOCK" sound accompanying it.  WHOCK, WHOCK, WHOCK...

As for the thread... it's nice to know that Sony PR can't think of anything better than the same "Gamecube 1.5" argument that fanboys have been using since last E3.

As far as mass-market appeal goes, most people who Nintendo is targeting either A) Don't notice the difference in graphics or B) Don't care.

I agree... I think Sony staff have wishful thinking here, they think oh yeah Wii will stop.. but there is no apparent reason for Wii to stop. With the arrival of further killer app software like Wii Health and Wii Music this year it's going to be unstoppable to the masses. And the hardcore crowd will be pretty happy with Mario, Metroid, Smash combination too.

It's just plain silly to call it a step back, and the wii has *nothing* that isn't current technology. It might not have a lot of bleeding edge technology outside of the remote, or be a huge leap forward... but anyone who considers it a step back looses all credibility, especially if they don't even try to say what went backwards.

What I find strange about the 2009 thing is that its coming from these people with close ties to the videogame market. Am I the ONLY one that realizes that if it takes the Wii until 2009 to finally start slowing down, that the war will already be OVER? The more the console sells the more software it will move and the larger the userbase, the larger the userbase and the higher the software sells the more publishers will jump on that consoles bandwagon, the more games the publishers pump out, the more consoles people will buy, for the GAMES, and the more consoles the people buy.... well it just starts all over from the top again. In 2009 if the Wii has sprinted all the way through 2007 and 2008 the Wii will hold a significant and respectable place in the eyes of the game publishers, period. They WILL be putting alot of software on it.

By that point it doesnt matter how bad the games look in comparison to the other consoles. The purchasing public buy the console with the games. Thats just how it is, and if the Wii's library is vast with nothing but more support on the horizon come 2009, then the war will have long since been decided for this gen, 1080p capable or not. That just seems to be lost on so many people, I just dont understand it. If come 2009 the Wii is getting dated, but DQX, FF14, and other large and highly anticipated 3rd party games are coming out FOR it in 2009, the public will not CARE, they arent going to just not buy those games and ignore them. They will buy them, and play them on their Wii's.

i mean honestly, think about it.

if you were running SCE and you were getting your ass kicked by nintendo this bad.
