Forums - Sales - Blu-ray player sales down despite format victory

Sales of Blu Ray players will increasing enormous if they release Blu Ray only movies.

The question is when that will happen?

I can imagine if they put some good movies Blu Ray only like Iron man for example people will consider to buy it.

I think it would be a good idea that they make Blu Ray only movies before Christmas.

It is obviously because of the recession.

Blu-Ray is being adopted faster than DVD was, and it will continue this way. You can play DVD's on a Blu-Ray player, unlike VHS's on a DVD player. So people wont be so afraid to upgrade to Blu-Ray. Once the price comes down to mass market price, Blu Ray will dominate the market in about 4-5 years, like DVD is now.

ps3 sales have gone up considerably. only bluray player that matters. end of forum

it needs a price cut

As already mentioned. BR is being picked up more quickly then DVD was. So I think Sony and co will want to keep the prices high for the time being. HD-DVD and the bad economy have removed the incentive to lower prices atm.

I doubt Sony are too worried about this, the PS3 is selling well. It makes more sense to buy a PS3 instead of a standalone player.

Off topic, but I really wish King Kong would be released on Blu-Ray! And the LotR trilogy.

Not to the mainstream customer it doesn't make sense.Do you really think a regular family goes out and buys a PS3 cuz of its Blu-Ray functionality? That was never the case with PS2 that had a DVD. Only single malevideogame players see it as a deal, not a family.

One of the reasons why Japanese people bought a PS2 and not a Dreamcast was because it was a cheap DVD player.

It's not because "DVD is good enough", its the prices and most know that cheaper and Profile 2.0 players are releasing in about a month, so they are waiting.

It is because "DVD is good enough," that and the fact that most have been spending the last 10 years getting theirdvd libraries built and a format change feels like a slap in the face. The only people I knwo who are excited about Blu_ray are Sony fans and Technophiles. And they can keep it.

If Blu-Ry movies and players where in the same price range with DVD movies and players then do you think the consumer would still choose DVD ?

If you do then you sir are indeed the fanboy , most of the blu-ray supporters have constantly said price is the main obstacle it's not the consumer not wanting Blu-Ray technology.

Yes they would. There's no movies on BD that wouldn't be on DVD and there are rewritable DVD players with digital tuners. So BD isn't yet even close to what DVD offers.

Actually, there are such BD devices in Japan, and have been since 2004.  3 years down the line, they will be here too very cheap.  The cost difference by then between DVD and BD will be insignificant.  It happens with all technology.

All BD players are back compatible with DVD and will be for a very long time.  Most people, besides Sony haters that I talk to, will accept Blu-ray at a certain price.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

DVD IS most definitely good enough.  That Blu-Ray is better does not suddenly make DVD no longer good enough.  A 4 bedroom house is good enough.  But if you were offered a 6 bedroom house for the same price you would take it won't you?  Your chick might be very pretty but cause she ain't as hot as Beyonce doesn't mean she ain't good enough does it?  You might have a BMW 5 series but cause it ain't a ferrari doesn't mean it isn't good enough does it?
