Forums - Nintendo - Iwata - thinking about Wii storage solution

jake_the_fake1 said:
I think that Nintendo will make a proprietary SD card that will only work on the wii and the SD card will lock it's self to the specific wii it's put into making it useless for any other wii but at the same time they will allow games to boot off the SD card.

This way they protect their content from being pirated, and at the same time expand the storage capacity which should resolve the issue of running out of space, well that's what I think Nintendo will do.

I do think the proprietary part is the main issue for SD card use right now.

oh, yeah, I like the proprietary SD card as well. It will kinda piss off those who already own SD cards that they use exclusively on their Wii's though.

For me it would be ok, I have only filled up about half of my internal memory. I expect that as more channels and wiiware games come I will need a better solution. Though it would need to be 4GB or larger. Maybe two options 4 and 8GB's would be perfect for pretty much anyone.

I'm on board for a proprietary SD card. As superchunk said I have plenty of 2 and 4 gig cards lying around but even 4 gig SD cards are retailing for $40 and under. I think Nintendo could release a 2 and 4 gig proprietary SD card solution and everyone will be happy.

i think the best solution to this problem is to release a small HD at a reasonable price, because a lot of people will buy Wiiware games and need the extra storage for that, and if nintendo don`t do something about it they will be holding back those people who want more and more games from doing it, which causes less sales and less money for the ones who made the games, and with that statement, Iwata pretty much confirmed, if not a HD, some kind of storage device in the near future...Maybe we`ll find out at E3.

Please, Nintendo. God knows I don't ask for much. Just give us a way to load vc and wiiware games, as well as DLC (ESPECIALLY IN GUITAR HERO 4) from an SD card or HDD. I don't care if it's proprietary (that's a great idea, btw) or not, just give us something!

An SD card would work well for WiiWare and VC, but it might be better for upcoming MMOs if they offered an HD.

Am I the one who find ironic that people go on and on about how Sony forces their 'garbage' proprietary format on user, (Blu-Ray, Memory stick, and UMD)... while at the same time, in favour of Nintendo introducing a proprietary SD card?

Not the card, just proprietary files on the cards.
