Forums - Nintendo - Boom blox loses head tracking?

I know this is old news, but I searched through the forums and didn't see anything about this issue, and it totally slipped under my radar until just now.

Apparently boom blox has had the head tracking easter egg removed from the game.

There's really not much to say about this... basically, this game has gone from an absolute MUST BUY to not even being worth playing if gotten as a gift in the span of about 60 seconds. I could understand nixing it from being a required feature and coming with ir glasses, but how far do you have to stick your head up your own ass to think that it would be a good idea to remove an optional feature that's already in place, and was widely touted as the single biggest selling point of the game?

Discuss.

Yeah, this is from a while ago, but it really didn't bug me. It's still high on my "very likely to buy" list. Disappointing, yes. But not a deal breaker if you ask me.

I plan to buy it. Maybe not at first -- only because I still need to play six games I've bought recently. (And I want to make sure it is as good as promised).

I didn't plan to do the head tracking trick. I didn't even know that it was planned or how to implement such. I wonder if it was removed because they could not do it right or because they did not have the rights.

The problem with head tracking in BOOM BLOX was that is was an "Easter Egg", not to be supported, and not including the required hardware (yah, only two IR points on your head).

Doing it that way would have been a "p*ss poor" introduction of Head Tracking to videogamers, as the vast majority would not know how to make the IR headset, and EA would have been inundated with tech support calls on their poorly created IR headsets.

Hopefully, EA themselves had enough sense to cancel it, otherwise I am glad someone cancelled it.

Here's hoping FATAL FRAME IV supports and promotes head tracking properly...

I've been excited for the game since it was first shown. I love physics based gameplay and from what I've been hearing from the Nintendo Media Summit, this is a game to look forward to. No mention of headtracking, just good fun. GoNintendo even gave it game of the show, and IGN had nothing but praise for the title.

I suggest that you give Boom Blox a shot. It's a creative title made from the ground up for Wii. And everyone who plays it falls in love with it. I can't wait for this title to come out.

Actually, I thought the general attitude was that it was an Easter Egg and didn't affect the game in any way at all and to laugh at the silly people that thought it was so important.

I always thought that was just a rumor...I didn't understand how a Wii game would successfully use headtracking anyway, without releasing extra accessories.

Yes I know you can put a sensor bar on your head and the Wiimote on the TV, but that's not consumer-friendly at all.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

In the previous thread I put forward the idea that EA might have nixed it because they plan on using it in another upcoming game in a more integrated way and having it in Boom Blox would unnecessarily steal it's thunder.

That may be wishful thinking but let's hope I'm right because that would be WAY cooler in the end.

As for Boom Blox, why would anyone buy this just for head-tracking?? Buy it because it's fun. That's the only reason I'll buy it - or not.
