Naz, you should know you can't fight opinions with facts.

I don't know about you lot but near 400,000 first week is good, is it not?

It will be a hit because it could make majority of it's million in Japan alone. Some JRPGs don't even make that.

@GarcianSmith

I presumed Red*Pokemon*trainer was meaning about general 'size', not scale. There was a reason FFVII and later were moved from N64 to Playstation and that was capacity of storage, it might play a factor again, restricting size on 360's and Wii's discs where Blu-Ray can hold a lot more information, more full motion video sequences, more high spec dialog etc....unless this isn't what he's on about.

EDIT: OT, I believe it will be on the PS3, but that's my oppinion.

Hmm, pie.

An inserted note by an editor is no confirmation...

Why has no official console been announced? Possible answers #1 A deal is being made with a console, #2 Shits and giggles, #3 can't think of anything else

So you would think Sony would know before a gaming news editor and if Sony knew, they would of announced it, promoted it, and created a shit load of hype for another game thats not coming out this year.

The last PS2 game Star Ocean: Till the End of Time did ~1m in Japan and 0.6m in NA according to Wikipedia.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Ocean:_Till_the_End_of_Time

Initially, the game received a somewhat negative impression in Japan. Parts of the game were alleged to be buggy, and the game refused to work at all in older SCPH-10000 PlayStation 2s. Enix blamed Sony, as they had coded Star Ocean 3 with features from updated libraries that were apparently not backward-compatible.[1] Sony denied all responsibility. Regardless, it impacted the game's sales, and Enix released the Director's Cut in 2004 to assuage grievances about the original by fixing the bugs and adding features. In North America, the game was well received among both critics and players, with Game Rankings, a compilation of critical reviews, giving it an average score of 81%. Star Ocean 3 was the 96th-best seller among console games of the PS2/GameCube/Xbox generation as of July 2006; it had estimated U.S. sales of 630,000 copies, with revenues of $23 million.[2] In Japan, the original sold 533,373 copies as of 2003,[3], while the Director's Cut version sold an additional 416,859.[4]

 Storage space really isn't a problem for the Wii, since Wii games don't need to hold HD video, HD textures, or Dolby Digital 5.1/7.1-encoded sound. And, heck, the handful of games that were too big for a DVD last-gen went on two DVDs, and I didn't see anybody complain.

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

No, not really.  550K lifetime is nothing.  Dragon Quest Swords on Wii did over 500K.

OXM is apparently a very good magazine for the latest playstation 3 news.

That could get me to buy a PS3.

Compared to the PS1 era where you could do a juggling act with the CDs for ONE Final Fantasy game... I don't think anyone would complain about the GC/PS2 era.

@Naz
So a Dragon Quest game on the current popular console did well, I am shocked.

Star Ocean is not as big as Dragon Quest but has sales and fans in it's own right. First weekly release of near 400,000 for 2 of it's 3 games isn't bad surely(the other being remakes)?

A spin-off rails slasher did 500K, which is "okay," not good, for Japan.  400K is definitely not good when it only manages to pull off an additional 150K in the rest of its life.
