It makes since to wait for the price cut we all expect. (assuming you live in NA) It makes no sence what so ever to "wait" because the console is a couple years old. That means you have a much larger library of games. Buy one imo if you want to play some of the games. This looks to be a great year. Xmote + Gears 2 + Fable 2 I'll be happy this fall I hope you will be to.

2011 cause the next one will come out that year

360 will last between two or three years longer.

2010 or 2011, 2010 would be 5 years which is fine, i have a feeling they might stretch it to 2011 this time though. I wouldn't really recommend waiting, for most consoles (especially microsoft ones) its best to wait and make sure there are no reliability issues before you buy one. If you buy one now you will have bypassed most of the RROD stuff and you have a 3 year warranty that will take you until 2011 anyways.

2011-2012. It's making money, so they'll milk it.

In terms of generation probably 2011-12. For me though, forever.

People expecting the 360 to have a six year life cyce ? Didn't the original XBOX (which failed mind you) have a 5 year life cycle ?

I'm expecting the 360 to stay around til Mid 2013 - Early 2014 , that's if microsoft actualy want to recoup some of the losses they've made on their XBOX's

ok....I think typical console life should be expected from the 360...so 2010-2011 seems like a pretty good estimate.

But have you seen the library of games on the system? If you like those kinds of games, then you have an entire console life of games to play. Seriously, if you like shooters/sports games, then you'll have enough to play regardless of whether any new exclusives appear on the 360.


The only question to ask yourself is whether that price tag warrants a purchase. It's not at mass-consumer price levels yet (299 for the highest model) so for me the answer is unfortunately no...but you may have an extra $500 lying around and I think it could be well worth a purchase.

I'd say the 360 could still be here for another 4-5 years from now with its successor on the market as well. As for when the successor comes out is another story.
