Hard to say as switch 2 has been disappointing a so will future console with their digital games.

They really need to consider how to deliver digital well if that is the future and it cannot be something that simply dies once they decide to turn of the services.

I wouldn't worry much about Sony copying the Switch. Sony gamers tend to want the latest high end graphics and would complain if PS6 performance stands still compared to PS5. If Sony goes with a handheld they won't be able to have the highest end graphics, or if a PS6 hybrid model has downgraded games vs PS6 console then Switch 2 can get the same third party games anyway, and Sony fans will want to buy the PS6 console and not the PS6 handheld anyway so they won't be competing with Nintendo in regards to a handheld market.

Most likely next Nintendo system will be a more powerful hybrid system. VR is definitely a possibility. Or they'll have some small new thing like Switch had the IR sensor and HD Rumble, and Switch 2 has the mouse controls. I think everyone pretty much agrees the Switch-style system is what Nintendo was working towards during the gens of experimenting, so I wouldn't expect some crazy new experiment when they already found what works.

The focus for Nintendo needs to be on making great games and continuing to improve their services. Plenty of work to do there. Online could be improved a lot, discounts could be improved a lot, various franchises could be improved (ie Pokemon is a complete joke these days) and brought back, keep experimenting with new franchises, better planning and scheduling (this gen they've showed they were totally flatfooted for S2's launch with no 3D Mario in sight still and having to rely AA games and remakes and minor updates to last gen games to have much of anything for the first couple years). Games and game services are why people buy systems.

It would be awesome to have an OLED screen when they launch, and the should do what Sony did with the portal and integrate a real controller (hopefully still detachable in nintendos case) that could be put together and works like a full pro controller. The portal controller is by far the most comfortable handheld controller I have ever played on.

I'm a simple man:

1) I want it to be like the Switch/Switch 2 but more powerful.
2) I want it to be a 100% physical console with no digital software.  No Game Key Cards!  No digital downloads.  No patches.  No hard drive.  All games can be saved on the cart.  Every game is 100% complete upon release.  It would also be nice if there were manuals and other cool inserts released with the games.  You will own your games and be happy.

If we got a switch 3, I’d want more of the same, though a better activity log, and themes like 3ds, main screen music and music in the eshop. Doubt it will ever happen and will get worse from here, but I want game key cards to be gone.

That would be a dream come true. But unfortunately a dream in today’s world.

Just more QoL enhancements and that’s fine enough for me. At least an upgrade similar to iPhone X to iPhone 18 Pro Max. Would also be cool if the system did something a little “wacky” e.g. like how the iPhone Duo can alter between a single-screen phone to a flip phone.
