They should have made such a move much earlier if they wanted a real impact, in the last year before the Switch 2 when they were running out of games this could have been killer to keep momentum. Clearing shelves won't do anything noticeable to sales or hype surrounding the system.
| trunkswd said: From what I've seen the €199.99 for an original Switch 1 with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is real. Even Nintendo is selling it for that price. Nintendo due to new EU regulations will have to stop selling (or shipping?) the Switch 1 in Europe in February 2027. How is EU regulations stopping them from shipping systems? That seems a bit odd. Sony lobbying?

Its all true ,clearing stock since nintendo must stop selling them in febr 2027
| Helloplite said: This is aggressive but it makes sense. Nintendo will be forced to stop selling Switch 1 from 1st February 2027. I thought that they would simply transfer stock to other regions, but it highly likely this is not economically feasible since EU products have unique EU packaging. They would have had to repackage it to sell it elsewhere, and possibly also have to reflash the operating system if it is in any way modified for EU markets. So, what they seem to have chosen is to price it aggressively to get rid of all their stock, rather than simply wait and decide later how to get 'rid' of it. |
It's February 18th that the EU regulation goes into effect. Like @trunkswd mentions below, the gap will now likely have shrunk so much by the end of this year that Nintendo will be able to ship even more units to retailers than before. Retailers can still continue to sell the stock they already have after the February 18th deadline.

This deal should move a decent number of units. The gap between shipped and sold in Europe at the end of the year is likely going to be tiny with sales quickly dropping in 2027 as Nintendo will no longer able to ship new units starting in February 2027. I hope Nintendo is able to ship a decent amount of Switch consoles as I have a feeling this is going to be rather popular at such a low price. |

But we all wish what you pointed out, supplying stores with a great amount of units before the farewell. I hope they will increase their fiscal year target in the upcoming report, that would be extraordinary. |
I doubt Nintendo will change its fiscal target at this point and instead just report that it exceeded its forecast. I do fully expect them to beat 2m.
I don't think they'll lower the price or advertise aggressively, but one thing they may do is flood the distribution chains with Switches across Europe when they do their final shipment. Possibly over the Christmas Quarter.
I have (or have/had in the household): ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, Amiga, NES, Sega Master System, Super Nintendo, Sega Megadrive, Gameboy, Playstation, Nintendo 64, Windows 95, Gameboy Colour, Windows 98, Sega Dreamcast, Gameboy Advance, PS2, Gamecube, Xbox, Windows XP, Nintendo DS, Xbox 360, Wii, PS3, Windows Vista, iPhone, Windows 7, 3DS, Wii U, PS4, Windows 10, PSVR, Switch, NES Mini, SNES Mini, Zelda Edition Game&Watch, PS5, PSVR2 & Switch 2. :D
and I Don't have: Magnovox Odyssey, Any Atari's, Any Macintosh computers, Sega Gamegear, Virtual Boy, Sega Saturn, N-gage, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PSP, PSVita & Andoid Phone. Plus any non-mainstream consoles/platforms I haven't mentioned.
People do realize that the RAM the Switch uses also got 2x more expensive this year, right? And the 16FF manufacturing process it uses isn't actually any cheaper vs. 2017 due to TSMC rising or keeping prices stable for older nodes.
Why were people not expecting a big sale? They have to get all their EU stock shipped to retailers before Feb 2027 lol. With such a hard deadline there was always going to be an end-of-life sale this holiday.
