Hell, if screentime counts, then I am a straight-up junkie, like 8 hours of my day (on my days when I'm not teaching) is spent on my laptop as I do work from home on there some days and spend most of my free time on Youtube, VGChartz, Famiboards, etc.

When I am out with people, I often think about how much I want to be home doing something on the screen. Of course I avoid my phone during these interactions, but it is in my head still. People might often take me as listless/apathetic, because I am not living in the moment enough.

Yeah it's scary how addictive it is, for me especially as my autistic special interest is gaming so screentime is like pure dopamine to me.

I have been making a conscious effort lately though to get out of the house more.

At the risk of being nosy, is she okay with that? Cos if she is that sounds more like an open relationship than cheating.

I don't really think it counts as an open relationship, my wife hasn't expressed the desire for a lover. My wife is friends with the women, she suggested it to us herself. Not to get to personal but we had a complication during her last pregnancy. So physical intimacy was hard for her for awhile. The rules were simple, her needs came first and that the friend couldn't get pregnant. It's been about a year of us doing this and she seems more curious about it then angry or anything. But she's healed up, so we've been taking it slow and getting back into it.

Well, if she's okay with it and it works for you, more power to you. Not sure I'd consider it cheating if she's on board.

My opinion: open ≠ cheating or a vice.

Just a quick clarification: this isn’t about dating, it is about relationships (which are synonymous in some cultures, but not the way I’m using it).

When in serious relationships, open relationships can lead to family stability issues as a result of outside forces. So, the husband and wife might be entirely satisfied with the arrangement, but that doesn’t cover outsiders who might not be, and will try to interfere. Outside men will often try to compete with the husband and try to break up the marriage, and when she attempts to break it off it can get a little scary if he decides to push his way in (stalking). Outside women will ‘accidentally’ get pregnant.

The solution to mitigate this is to not do so much of a pure-open Sartre style thing, but have a swinger group where everyone involved is either on the same page or understands the rules. Or, at least involve yourself with people who live in this paradigm.

Some of my family members and friends are involved in successful open relationships.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.
