My guess as to why NS2 "only" moved 50k units this week is that anybody interested in purchasing a Switch 2 for games such as Splatoon Raiders and FE: Fortune's Weave has already picked up a system in advance, prior to the price hike. We probably won't see a software launch sending hardware "through the roof" until Switch Sports Resort at the soonest. 50k hardware is pretty solid with this in mind, especially when considering that Raiders is a spin-off.

I did expect a bigger boost though considering how many people bought a Switch 2 before the price increase recently it does make sense that a lot or even most of the people who would've bought one this week bought one earlier instead. Also the Switch 1 hits 500k which is notable since this is the last time it'll sell that much in a year.

You and I are in sync it seems: same thoughts posted at the same time lol. But yeah, not too surprising TBH. Doesn't make much sense to hold off on purchasing a NS2 system until July when you are told several weeks/months in advance that a price hike is inbound. Unless you're a new fan, didn't have the money at the time, were unaware of any such price hike coming, or some other reason.

Very few sales for the Switch 2. Many people underestimated the impact of the price increase in Japan. I can’t wait to see the sales numbers starting September 1st, when the price goes up worldwide. It’s going to be very interesting to watch.

Not sure why everyone was expecting so much from a spinoff. Yeah the Splatoon is a major franchise in Japan, 1-3 all sold super well because its a PVP based game. Raiders is totally different with zero PVP. Honestly, the NS2 sold more than I was expecting, i was thinking around 40kish.

Is this only physical copies?

If so would be interesting to know how many digital copies Raiders sold.

More or less what I would think, too.

However, I do expect the baseline to rise a bit (27k-30k), as I'm sure it turned out better than many thought, so stragglers will come to buy the console for this game.

Edit: Though next week's sales will probably also be impacted by the earthquake in Japan somewhat, so I'd say that one's a special week.

Funny enough the PS5 is the only hardware up YoY.  I knew Slatoon was popular, especially in Japan.  So I figured it would provide a boost for Switch... but I have to admit, I though the intial boost would be higher.  Lets see if it can elevate the baseline. 

Heh, people had high hopes for SW2 hardware this week, but I think the price hike destroyed baseline sales for this year. Not only should a price hike cause a decrease in baseline sales, but I think the bigger factor is the huge amount of hardware sales that happened right before the price hike. Those are most of the people who would have otherwise bought a Switch 2 later this year.

You barely beat me to it lol. Another likely reason is someone not being able to get one back then due to stock getting depleted.
