Sony Interactive Entertainment will close the PlayStation Store on PlayStation 3 and PS Vita in July 2027 in most countries, the company announced. The PlayStation Store on PlayStation 3 will close earlier in select countries—in August 2026 in Mexico, Honduras, and Nicaragua; and in late 2026 in additional Latin American and Middle Eastern countries.

The PlayStation Store on PlayStation 3 and PS Vita was originally scheduled to close in August 2021, but that decision was reversed following user feedback.

Here is the full message from Sony Interactive Entertainment content communications senior director Sid Shuman on the closure:

After nearly two decades of supporting the PlayStation 3 console generation, we wanted to let you know we will be closing the PlayStation Store on PlayStation 3, as well as on PS Vita. PlayStation Store on PlayStation 3 will close in select markets starting this year, followed by global closures for PlayStation 3 and PS Vita next year. That means new content purchases will no longer be possible once the PlayStation Store closes on these devices. To ease the transition, players will still be able to download previously purchased content after the closing date for the foreseeable future.

As the PlayStation Store continues to evolve to support modern commerce systems, including updated payment processing standards, PlayStation 3 and PS Vita are no longer able to support these updates at the level required. As a result, we will need to close PlayStation Store on these devices in the timeframes as follows:

• Mexico, Honduras, Nicaragua – PlayStation Store on PlayStation 3 will close starting August 2026.
• Additional Latin American and Middle Eastern countries – PlayStation Store on PlayStation 3 will close starting late 2026.
• In all other countries – PlayStation Store on PlayStation 3 and PS Vita will close in July 2027.

There were never going to last forever. 3DS/360/Wii stores are already gone after all. The important thing is you can still download your owned titles.

We are lucky they lasted this long. The stores have been held together with duct tape for a while now.

Glad that PS3 emulation has FINALLY taken off and is in a great state. However, you need the bios file that PlayStation is currently allowing for download. Better get the file now and store it somewhere safe.

I can still buy 360 dlc via my browser, did so the other day for my rare Asian blue dragon release (Japanese/English subs). I am guessing my PS3 will not work the same way?

Yeah it's weird that for most emulators that need bios you had to dump it from your own console or not so legally download someone else's bios files.

But with PS3 you just download it straight from Sony lol.

PS3 emulation has been pretty good for a couple of years now. Still waiting on Original Xbox emulation to improve more.

If you can buy it on the current Xbox store it will show up on your 360, but only games that are compatible with XBO/XBS are still available for purchase.

Any non-bc 360 games are not purchasable anymore.

Feels like yesterday I was trying to play God of War 3 at 10fps

Yeah, OG Xbox and 360 emulation still have a lot of catching up to do lol. I got Xemu to have the original Xbox UI and Insignia running. Now I just need the emulation itself to make drastic improvements.

No big loss as far as I'm concerned, as long as you are still able to download the games you've purchased previously. At this point, it's best to get new games on other platforms when possibly - which is probably most of the time. You can't get everything that way, but most likely you won't be missing out on very much. Just accept your loss, buy physical, or utilize emulation for the remaining cases.

It's honestly amazing to me that these stores are even still open; I actually used the PS3 store just a couple months ago to grab Super Stardust HD and the DLC for TLOU, and who boy it felt like they were just barely holding together and simply making a simple purchase was a huge ass adventure.

Still, sad to see em go.
