Unfortunately, Paper Mario is overshadowed by its direct sequel. It is a great game. I was addicted to it when I played it 2 years ago

Good console. Mario 64 blew my mind. Still think it's the worst of the 3 that gen. Second most popular sure. Worst does not mean bad tho. Still a very good system. Just the library was severely lacking variety and genres. Still had some gems like Mischief Makers. Sin N Punishment is great. I still have mine and it still works.

I got mine for Christmas 1998 when I was 9.
It's hard to overstate just how impressive it felt at the time, going from SNES to full 3D.
It wasn't just the graphics, but also the kind of experiences made possible by 3D worlds, the liminal spaces that teased your imagination, the mood and atmosphere of say Ocarina of Time or Mario 64.
Still one of my favourite consoles, even if it's a bit rough to revisit now as technology has come a long way since.
My memories are pretty magical. That's how I would summarize it. It felt magical. It retained all the vibes of their 2D games while at the same time, moving us forward into the third dimension. I didn't get that with Gamecube or any other subsequent console. Wind Waker didn't feel like 3D ALTTP. Neither did Twilight Princess. Sunshine did not feel like 3D SMW. But OOT and SM64 did. And then you add in 007 and Rare and well... magic. I actually owned a PS1 and N64 during that era and played the N64, almost exclusively after I got it. It wasn't until sometime in early 2000 that I got caught up on everything that had happened on Sony's side of the equation. It was all N64, all the time.
(note on the above mention of their franchises not feeling like 3D versions of their 2D games: Metroid Prime 1 felt that way, too; but it was the last time that happened for me and the only example).

Didn't have contact with it until '98/'99. Those late 90s were years when I was at the peak of disinterest with anything consoles, with PC gaming at its prime. I softened a bit in following years, ended up enjoying lot of N64 titles, though I can't say I was really blown away by anything.
Never got the n64 but heared a lot about it! 30 years already i was 9 then! Crazy how time flies.
