Forums - Microsoft - Xbox cuts 3200 jobs, Ninja Theory, Double Fine, Compulsion, Undead Labs and Arkane Lyon being divested

Nintendo only buys a studio they collaborated with for years before. They want to make sure they can have a good working relationship with a studio before taking the plunge.

Xenoblade has done all of this. Tragic stories. Cursing. Murder. Blood. Body horror(end of Torna looking like a scene out of The Thing). Delusions.  True it keeps it T but it is there and can be pretty dark. Not to mention Nintendo owns Eternal Darkness. Published many M rated games.

Not saying they go full Dead Space.  Fire Emblem (I am not sure about recent ones) have dealt with some really dark themes and some truly fucked up instances but many of those stayed in Japan so there is that. As did Captain Rainbow which has a mission you find Birdo's Dildo. Some Famicom DC games can deal in some harsher themes. That said no Nintendo is not the right fit for NT. Nintendo values gameplay first and sorry NT's games range from bad to average at best. While true Nintendo is known for getting the best out of studios. Mercury Steam with Metroid Dread. Personally I don't think NT games are very good. They are better at making tech than games. That will benefit a Sony or some third party big publisher. Not Nintendo who makes their own engines and sometimes use a UE.

I think NT are pretty good at crafting mature action games. Their best games like DMC and Hellblade sold more than 1 millions copies. They could help Nintendo with UE optimizations too. Nintendo would have to reduce the budget for Senua to around $40 millions though. Other than that they are pretty good fit for western mature games that Nintendo lack. We'll see of course, the chances are low, but the studio is pretty good, just mismanaged by the corporate.

DmC is trash and was a total flop for Capcom. Deservedly so.

Nintendo appeals to everyone, and is family friendly.
Their 1st party games are not dark, filled with gore, horror, killings, mental illness and hallucinations ...   It goes against what nintendo stands for at its core.

Nintendo has published some pretty adult games before; Bayonetta 2 and 3, Eternal Darkness, Fatal Frame 4 and 5.

Eternal Darkness was a GameCube game and Nintendo hasn't been interested in doing anything with it since then. I think it's time to stop using it as an example of the kind of games Nintendo allows in their consoles.

Please excuse my bad English.

Better than DMC 2 based on metacritic 😭😂🤣 The sales were close to 5 millions based on Google search. Definitely, talents from NT would benefit Nintendo's mature games output. Switch 2 is no longer a console for children, but more optimized for working adults. It's time for Nintendo to publish some mature games to show that they hear the voices of hardcore gamers too.

It hit that number after more than a decade and releasing on a shit ton of platforms. It was considered a flop as Capcom had to keep readjusting sales targets below the initial goal. Hence DMC5 existing.

Given we just got Gamecube on NSO I think it's likely we'll see it again soon.

Regardless, there are plenty of more recent examples; Emio the Smiling Man for example touches on murder, dismemberment, domestic violence, alcoholism, etc.

Such a sad time in gaming to see so many lay offs and studio closures. Unfortunately for these studios, they are being asked to spin off at one of the toughest times. I fear they are going to have a lot of trouble finding investor/ buyers. I kind of doubt any of the big publishers will be interested in taking on the risk and Sony is rumored to have lots of lay offs coming themselves. Feels like they might need to look to sources like the Saudi's for funding. Ninja theory likely has the best chance, imo.

Double Fine feels like a studio Nintendo could have interest, but they rarely buy studios. Double Fine being located in San Francisco also doesn't help, as that makes them a pricey studio.

Sony one feels justified.
Bungie was like 1600 people at one point, to support Destiny 2..... as they stopped production/working on Destiny 2 they let people go.
Then they had like 800-1000 people for Marathon.

It was a flop.... and cannot justify supporting that many developers doing f*** all, for it.

Bungie needs to get the remaining 500 or so devs (rumors say upto like half will be let go), left afterwards, to work on something new.
Maybe rehire once they get futher into the production pipeline.

Square Enix should buy all three just to be their quarterly punching bag.

D-topia (XS) Review -- 6/10 |

I do hope Ninja Theory survive as I did really liked games like Enslaved and Hellblade 1 from them.

Not sure I fancy the chances of any of these studios though, Microsoft is cleaning house and none of them have really managed to deliver a hit in recent years.

Hopefully they get spun off, but more likely I think they're fucked.
