I have more tabs open in FireFox than icons on my desktop ;)

I only have 1 icon on my desktop: a folder without an icon. In this folder are all my desktop shortcuts and a few subfolders and files, which I can sort alphabetically or by type or by size with 1 mouse click.

This way the desktop keeps clean and I can see the desktop wallpapers without all those icons.

I marked that "hidden" folder with the red rectangle:

My desktop is more a screensaver / night light than a desktop. So It's basically a storage folder, the root directory.

This is my actual real desktop, scroll wheel to scroll through the 'task bar' aka tab list.



I also have Edge open since Outlook doesn't play nice with FireFox (Microsoft ugh)

There's bugger all on my desktop.

Not the cleanest, not the worst.

My wallpaper is doing a lot of heavy lifting here.

My desktop more reflects a history of my life, as I always carry my desktop folder over when switching computers with easy access to pictures and documents going back to the late 90s. Hence my desktop is full of folders. My desktop folder is 142 GB altogether.

For what it's worth, supposedly if you're using Windows, having a really large amount of files on your desktop or directories under it can really slow down your PC. If you're fine, that's great, but if you've been having unexpectedly poor performance, that might be why.
