The reason Japanese games are cheaper is because people get paid less. Is that really something to celebrate? Obviously there needs to be a balance, and maybe $1m wrap parties are not it, but people getting paid a lot on projects like Spider-man seem like a great thing. Aren't we always complaining about how much inequality is in the world and that not enough of profits to back to the workers.

Or should we celebrate companies like Capcom and Fromsoft paying new graduates at entry level less than the minimum wage in a country like the UK(yes you'd actually get paid more working at McDonalds in the UK straight from school than working as a graduate at Capcom)

Or give more reasons for microtransactions, dlc, loot boxes, skins stores, incomplete games at launch and excuses to fire devs because budget was not hit.

Don’t Nintendo do every one of those too? Gacha phones games, plenty of DLC, lots on incomplete games like a bunch of the sports games, and Mario Kart world still adding requested features. They also lock things like fast travel behind plastic toys when the mood takes them. They do all those things and they’d do them one thousand times more if it would make them money. I guess they don’t fire lots of people(Japanese employment law makes this hard), just pay them mediocre wages while making insane profits. A Reminder: The second Spider-Man game cost so much in part because the staff working on it received $40m in bonuses during its development. This isn’t necessarily something we should be shouting down. There just needs to be the right balance applied.

Like them or hate them, some of these AAA developers need to learn a thing or two from Nintendo and how they budget their games. I can only imagine the amount of money that is wasted on games like this. To many American companies burn millions of dollars because their spending is not managed well.

I really love the Gears series, played and beat 1-5, and I am in no way a Nintendo fan (never owned a NS1 and no plan on buying a NS2) but one thing they do extremely well is manage their money well. Hearing that really is frustrating because if they game does not sell extremely well, it will impact the franchise in a bad way. From the videos that I saw, there is no reason this game needs to have a budget of $400 million (if its true)

Nintendo games are cheaper to make because Japanese employees make less money and Nintendo uses less technology in their consoles and games, making them cheaper to develop on. Obviously it will cost less to push the Switch 2 to its limits than it will cost to make a game that pushes the Series X and PC’s. Personally I am all for indie games and games with smaller budgets/price, they’re often better than the bloated checklist focused AAA games we get. But it’s great to get a banger every now and again, something that makes you glad you have a great gaming rig or a Series X/PS5 Pro.

I mean even a lower budget lower priced Xbox game like South of Midnight visually blows away anything on Switch 2 and plays just as well.

On topic, I doubt this budget mark is true. If it were that high I think this would be launching day one on PS5 as well.
