How so? Having Switch Sports Resort crossgen wouldn't exactly bolster the case for buying a Switch 2.

That's exactly what I'm saying - they abandon old consoles very quickly once new gen comes.

Yeah, historically they've been pretty bad at it since the N64, but Switch 1 to Switch 2 was pretty well handled I thought; ongoing support for Switch 1 but still a good number of Switch 2 exclusives.

They have released a lot of games for S1 since S2 came out tho. More than any previous gen, actually.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Well, it's been certainly better than WiiU to Switch 1.

That said, I think Switch Sports Resort should've been crossgen title as well.

If Switch Sports Resort was crossgen, you'd be left with only really Splatoon Raiders and Ocarina remake to push Switch 2 sales for the rest of the year; you'd be depriving your current system of a potential system seller in order to prop up a system that's been replaced for well over a year and is on its way out.

S2 is simply a higher priority for Nintendo now than S1.

Switch Sports Resort is hardly that type of title.

Also, I'm looking at this from consumer perspective and I think this would be quite good title to show goodwill for Switch 1 users, since it doesn't require much effort to put it on Switch 1 (like say what Sony had to do with Horizon Forbidden West for PS4 port).

I actually think Switch Sports is that kind of title, there's a huge audience that grew up with the Wii and has massive nostalgia for Wuhu Island.

I feel like Nintendo's been pretty good to Switch 1 owners, they got Pokemon Legends Z-A, Metroid Prime 4, Tomodachi Life, and Rhythm Heaven post the system's replacement. At some point it does come time to move on to the next system, you can't support Switch 1 forever if you want to build a healthy Switch 2 base.

Apart from Metroid Prime 4, which is Switch 1 developed game buffed up for Switch 2, those are all technically simpler games....just like Switch Sports Resort.

As I said, I'm looking this from consumer perspective and comparing directly to what Sony did for PS4/PS5 with actual heavy hitters - somehow, they didn't have problem with supporting PS4 for two years, while building up PS5 base.

Besides, isn't Nintendo building up to officially enter Indian market with Switch 1? This would be pretty good title for that.

PS's situation is different; their core audience show up every time pretty much no matter what, Nintendo's are historically much less reliable and need more convincing. Nintendo can't afford to hold back Switch 2 the way Sony held back the PS5, they'd risk Switch 2 failing to grow a healthy install base.

I actually don't think it benefits the consumer overall to keep Switch 1 alive for too long, as that could hurt Switch 2 owners. As a customer, it's not in my interest for Switch 1 to keep getting games if it means my new console is put at risk.

For the moment, the expansion to India is still unconfirmed, but if its true, they'll be just fine with what the Switch 1 already has.

Well, I guess we'll have to agree to disagree - as SW2 owner, I don't see SW2 being in danger if they've put more games on SW1, and as WiiU owner I certainly feel for people who get shafted with lack of support once new gen comes (which was one of the major reasons why I got SW1 quite late AND second hand).

Yeah that's fair enough; I'm a Wii U owner as well, and Wii before that, so I definitely know the feeling of how much it sucks to be prematurely abandoned. 2012 and 2016 were awful.

I feel like over 9 years of software support for Switch 1 is very reasonable though, and with the price hike coming up, Nintendo probably figure Switch 2 needs every bit of help it can get.
