Forums - Nintendo - Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis coming to Switch 2 Febuary 12th 2027

I think the original 1996 Tomb Raider is the best of the series (and one of the best games of the fifth gen), so I want to be excited for this, but I don’t know. The trailer doesn’t do it any favors. It looks like it carries the stiffness of the PS1 games with the cinematic pretensions of the newest trilogy — sort of the worst of both worlds.

I hate the character model (I am not going to explain, best not).

If someone say that Lara looks ugly, Istg

Anyway, this is the game I'm most interesting in from the presentation, classic Lara is back, or at least the closest she got from being back since 2008, and those TR1 levels are looking great in modern graphics. I had conviction we would see this game on the NS2 and now I can't wait.

For me it's between TR1 and TR2, tough first games in IP always have special place.

She's far from ugly, on the contrary, but (apart from physical things) she doesn't radiate any of badassery that original Lara had - this one is like temporary stand-in, while real Lara arrives to the set.

She is however somewhat better than Moana Lot from Crypt Faker, which would be proper title for 2013 Reboot (as I said, very good TPP cover shooter, but it's got nothing to do with actual TR).

Will probably create chaos; my issue is when characters are not dressed appropriately for their task. When I do a leisurely hike in the wood/mountain I don't wear shorts and sleeveless atire... snakes, thorns, bugs, etc. It is just a non sensical outfit to go running through a jungle.  Quiet in MGS5 is the biggest offender.  Go lay in the 100+ F sand on bear skin...  sure.

Eh it's a fantasy. There's Trex's running around. Playful/exaggerated costumes are just for fun. It's not meant to be grounded. I mean you could say the same thing for pretty much any super hero ever, why the heck are you swinging around in a bright red costume everyone can see you from a mile off.

Sometimes fun design is more important than practicality or realism.

It is fair and I get your point, and I won't argue against it.  It just isn't my thing, takes me out of the atmosphere.  I mean Spider Man is at least clothed in protective wear..  it has always been a thing with me.  Just not my thing.

Yeah, in games that try to emulate reality.

The thing is TR kinda never did. First time you start TR 1996 and make a back/side flip with Lara, you know she's a pulp fiction hero - nobody, and I mean nobody, can do such flips like she can IRL. That's the way she was, and that's the way she's supposed to be, so their scanty clothes, while completely unrealistic for proper adventuring, fit with the style.

I honestly don't know how you got that from the trailer. I said classic Lara was *close* to being back, because personally I don't see the sassiness of classic Lara in there, specially not of the original Eidos Lara with that British accent she had, I miss that Lara. But, I really don't see how you didn't get badassery from that trailer.

Depending on the game I agree, but Tomb Raider, prior to the reboot, was always a suspension of disbelief power fantasy akin to Indiana Jones. We fighting mummies and dinos and Shaolin monks cause why not. So I never cared about where are her pants lmao

Side note, not sure anyone cares, AI was used to help develop assets..
