Forums - Gaming - Which was actually the better system: Xbox vs Gamecube

Which was better?

Xbox 13 50.00%

Gamecube 13 50.00%

Total:26

The two runner ups of the 6th gen; almost equal in sales, each with a dedicated following.

Which do you think was actually the better console, and why?

Gamecube had windwaker, so it wins by default. I also loved eternal darkness and many, many other games on the system.

The Xbox had the superior version of third party games, better third party support and had some great console exclusives. While GameCube wins on first party and exclusives for me I think the Xbox was a better general gaming device.

Having the best console version of classics like Battlefront 2, Need for Speed Underground 2 and Burnout 3 is a huge bonus and then there's the titles that were only on pc+Xbox like doom 3, half-life 2, jedi academy, morrowind.

Plus Kotor is one of my favourite games of all time lol.

My main Xbox complaints are it's massive, the original fat controller is awful, the controller could have used bumpers and the wire connection on my S controllers always used to become damaged internally so if I moved slightly it could lose connection lol.

Big daddy chonk by far and like always when Xbox OG vs xxx comes up it’s simple, the lineup of games was just better in every way.

I had a lot of games on Xbox and only a few games on GameCube. But nothing I played on Xbox beats RE1 Remake, RE4, Wind Waker, or Twilight Princess. And for the price and size, the GameCube is arguably the most impressive home console hardware of all time. The controller was comfortable too.

Xbox is more powerful with a larger game library and superior multiplats, but the GameCube beats it for me as far as memorable games, even though I got many "must haves" on Xbox and only a handful on GameCube. Considering how large, late, and expensive (to manufacture) it was, I don't find the hardware to be all that amazing.

For me it was the Xbox. Bought the massive pack bundle back in the day. Came with 2 controllers and 3 games. Midtown madness 3, Brute Force and Halo. The internal hdd was awesome and it had many awesome exclusives, including Mech Assault, KOTOR, Fable, Rallisport Challenge 2, Forza Motorsport. Also best place to play many 3rd party games.

RE4 was awesome, but RE 1 Remake? Not that impressive.

Xbox also had a lot of awesome console exclusive games like Halo 1 + 2, Forza Motorsport, Ninja Gaiden and Star Wars: KotOR

Software wise - extremely dependent on personal preferences.
Hardware wise - XBOX.

Each to their own. RE1 Remake is my favorite Capcom game of all time, an absolute masterpiece! I had Halo 2, Ninja Gaiden 1 and Black, Forza, Shenmue 2, Doom 3, Riddick, Far Cry, Oddworld, DoA, and lots more and didn't like them as much as the four GC games I highlighted.

Still a great console and my opinion may have been different if I experienced KotOR, Otogi, Morrowind (doubtful since I can't stand Bethesda's games lol), etc.

Nintendo is always going to win for me. I just think they have the best games pretty much with all their consoles except the Wii U.

The xbox was really good and I enjoyed it. But I will take Twilight, Wind, Sunshine and Prime 1/2, Luigi Mansion, Pikmin and Paper Mario Thousand over the xbox.
