Forums - Gaming - Which was actually the better system: Xbox vs Gamecube

Which was better?

Xbox 22 45.83%

Gamecube 26 54.17%

Total:48

Had one fun session playing Halo 2 on Xbox.
Had uncountable fun sessions playing Melee and Double Dash.

Xbox was more powerful, had the best online support and had cables excellent for starting a fire.

GameCube is the home to my favorite kart racer, my favorite fighting game, my favorite 3D Zelda, my Favorite game RE4 and have my favorite controller (might be surpassed by the fantastic dual sense).

I have never owned an Xbox, it has never seemed interesting to my. The exclusive games for the systems usually is of a genre I simple do not like to play. There was a time when the system was fresh and would get games from Rare that I thought about it, I wanted to play Kameo and the Conker remake. But it was not enough to warrant the price tag and the GameCube was very cheep. Still remember the Mario Kart Double Dash pack in with Zelda collectors edition new for 129$. I do not think any video game deal beats that value.

Probably a lot of nostalgia talking, but the purple lunch box is still hooked up to a TV and see use whenever my siblings visit, or when I visit them. I cannot give it to the Xbox even if the system on paper looks better.

My favorite game for Xbox (Halo 2) beats my favorite game for Gamecube (Smash Melee). Both great with friends, but I can still enjoy Halo 2 solo. Keep going down the list and Xbox still beats Gamecube for me. Then you have the fact that you could play online, play CDs, and play DVDs. Xbox wins in the multimedia front too. Xbox og controller was so cool, Gamecube controller broke on me. Both could easily play 4 player. Overall Xbox wins.

I'm a pretty hardcore Nintendo fan, but I gotta go with the Xbox on this one.

With the likes of Halo 1/2, Star Wars Battlefront 1/2, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Doom 3, Jade Empire, Chronicles of Riddick, and Fatal Frame II, the Xbox just had a superior library for my tastes, along with the better version of most multiplats.

Gamecube did have some great games of its own like RE4, Metroid Prime 1/2, F-Zero GX, and Twilight Princess, but it just didn't capture my imagination the way other Nintendo consoles did.

I loved the OG xbox, such a great great system. For me its xbox i did not like the GCN i think its Nintendos worst system, although it had RE4 which is of the best games every created

Yeah I feel pretty much the same, RE4 is my favourite game of all time, but GC is my least favouriter Nintendo console.

I must say, I’m really loving reading the responses on this thread. Much closer match up than I would’ve expected— I guess it’s fitting how similarly the two systems sold.Good thread, Curl!

I've fallen out of love with the Gamecube over time despite it being my first console as a kid, mostly because I've come to see how Nintendo rushed so many of its biggest games to market when they needed more time in development, and because I'd rather play many of its best games in their Wii rereleases like the 2 Primes and RE4. But Rogue Leader and Melee remain my favorite games of that generation by far, and the Gamecube controller is by far my favorite traditional controller, while the OG XBox controller is the worst controller I've ever used. The 360 controller was such a huge improvement. I've beaten Halo 1 and 2 on PC and didn't think they were all that special even with mouse controls. Halo 3 is the only game in the series that was truly great in my opinion. So there isn't much in the XBox lineup that's for me outside of KOTR and the racing franchises like PGR and Forza.

On the graphics side, while the XBox is technically superior, I feel that Gamecube's best graphics have aged a lot better in 2026. Not just Wind Waker, but all 3 RE games, the Prime games, the Rogue Squadron games, the Star Fox games. There are far, far fewer Xbox games that hold up in the same way today compared to Gamecube.

The one thing XBox absolutely destroys Gamecube in is online play, and that is so huge that it actually makes me hesitant to call the Gamecube the better console despite my finding the Gamecube to be superior in every other category.

I like Wii more than Gamcube by a lot. It introduced me to Okami. Gave me No More Heroes 1-2. Zak & Wiki.  Xenoblade. The Last Story. Earth Seeker. Tatsunoko vs Capcom. Pandora's Tower. The greatest Space Harrier like ever in Sin n Punishment Star Successor. Aboy & his Blob. Endless Ocean. A better version of RE4. All time hidden gem and great game. Fragile Dreams. Some great light gun ports. Ghost Squad. LA machine Guns. New ones ike House of the Dead Overkill. Red Steel 2. Kirby Epic Yarn. Great remake of Klonoa. Lost in Shadow. Prime 3. Muramasa the Demon Blade. The Sky Crawlers. Zangeki no Reginleiv. Captain Rainbow. Where else would you have a quest from Nintendo to find Birdo's Dildo. Yes that is real in a NIntendo made game. Only in Japan. Then Wii just plays all Gamecube games. Wii is a much much much better console than Gamecube.

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

I'll give it to the Gamecube because it had Tales of Symphonia at 60fps and the Xbox did not.
