PS5 vs Xbox Series Sales Comparison - April 2026

This monthly series compares the aligned worldwide sales of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S both launched in November 2020. The PlayStation 5 launched November 12, 2020 in North America, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, and the rest of the world on November 19, 2020. The Xbox Series X|S launched worldwide on November 10, 2020.

PS5 Vs. XSX|S Worldwide:

Gap change in latest month: 337,336 - PS5

Gap change over last 12 months: 14,145,827 - PS5

Total Lead: 57,273,086 - PS5

PlayStation 5 Total Sales: 91,947,615

Xbox Series X|S Total Sales: 34,674,529

April 2026 is the 66th month the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S has been available for. In the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the PlayStation 5 when compared to the aligned launch of the Xbox Series X|S by 0.34 million units.

In the last 12 months, the PlayStation 5 has outsold the Xbox Series X|S by 14.15 million units. The PlayStation 5 is currently ahead by 57.27 million units.

The PlayStation 5 has sold 91.95 million units in 66 months, while the Xbox Series X|S sold 34.67 million units. The PlayStation 5 has a 72.6 percent marketshare (+2.7% year-over-year), compared to 27.4 percent for the Xbox Series X|S (-2.7% year-over-year).

The PlayStation 5 is currently 3.74 million units behind the PlayStation 4 when you align launches and the Xbox Series X|S is behind the Xbox One by 14.13 million units.

PS5 vs PS4 Sales Comparison - April 2026

This monthly series compares the aligned worldwide sales of the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.

The PlayStation 5 launched in November 2020, while the PlayStation 4 launched in November 2013. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do lineup.

PS5 Vs. PS4 Worldwide:

Gap change in latest month: 360,078 - PS4

Gap change over last 12 months: 937,327 - PS4

Total Lead: 3,736,435 - PS4

PlayStation 5 Total Sales: 91,947,615

PlayStation 4 Total Sales: 95,684,050

April 2026 is the 66th month the PlayStation 5 has been available for. In the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the PlayStation 4 when compared to the aligned launch of the PlayStation 5 by 0.36 million units.

In the last 12 months, the PS4 has outsold the PS5 by 0.94 million units. The PS4 is currently ahead of the PS5 by 3.74 million units.

The PS5 has sold 91.95 million units in 66 months, while the PS4 sold 95.68 million units. Month 66 for the PS5 is April 2026 and for the PS4 is April 2019.

The PS4 crossed 100 million in month 72, 105 million in month 74, and 110 million in Month 79. The PS4 sold 117.20 million units lifetime. The PS5 is 25.25 million units behind lifetime PS4 sales.

Will be interesting to see how this graph goes now that the latest price hike has gone into effect. The next few months could get ugly til November rolls around.

The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S launched in November 2020, while the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One launched in November 2013. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do lineup.

Gap change in latest month: 522,224 - PS4 & XOne

Gap change over last 12 months: 7,226,121 - PS4 & XOne

Total Lead: 17,870,733 - PS4 & XOne

Total Combined PS5 and Xbox Series X|S Sales: 126,622,144

Total Combined PS4 and Xbox One Sales: 144,492,877

In April 2026, the gap grew in favor of the combined sales of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One when compared to the aligned launch of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in the last month by 0.52 million units.

In the last 12 months, the PS4 and Xbox One has sold 7.23 million units more than the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The PS5 and Xbox Series X|S are currently behind by 17.87 million units.

The PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in their first 66 months sold a combined 126.62 million units, while the PS4 and Xbox One have sold a combined 144.49 million units. Month 66 is April 2026 for the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, while for the PS4 and Xbox One it is April 2019.

The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One sold a combined 175.16 million units lifetime. The PS5 and Xbox Series X|S are 48.54 million units behind lifetime sales of the PS4 and Xbox One.

Switch vs PS2 Sales Comparison - April 2026

This monthly series compares the monthly worldwide sales of the Nintendo Switch with the lifetime sales of the PlayStation 2.

The PS2 launched in March 2000 in Japan, October 2000 in North America, and November 2000 in Europe. The Nintendo Switch launched worldwide in March 2017.

Switch Total Sales: 154,649,515

PS2 Total Sales (Low End): 160,000,000

PS2 Total Sales (High End): 160,636,885

April 2026 is the 110th month that the Nintendo Switch has been available for and it has sold 154.65 million units lifetime. The PlayStation 2 sold between 160.0 million and 160.64 million units lifetime as Sony announced it sold over 160 million, while 160.64 million is the number of units manufactured.

In the latest month, the Nintendo Switch has closed the gap with the PS2 by 0.20 million units. In the last 12 months, the Nintendo Switch has caught up by 3.93 million units.

The Switch is 5.35 million units away from outselling the low end sales of the PlayStation 2, while it is 5.99 million units away from the high end.

Note: Sony announced the PS2 sold over 160 million units lifetime, while an image confirmed by Shawn Layden to be real showed there were 160,636,885 units manufactured.
