I mean, that sounds terrible. Most people wouldn't have played the DLC of GoW Rag, so only know the story in it, which also means Tyr being a main character feels off. He's honestly not a note worthy character and from what we got is very dull.

They should just do a Atreus spin off with him visiting these places, just age him up, give him a mythical special sword of some kind and let him experience these things.

I pretty much disagree with all your takes.

Tyr lore is great, that's exactly why he can be expanded. He is one of the biggest pivot points of the plot of both Nordic games, so he is extremely note worthy.

And I really, really don't want a game with Atreus, not that I wanted one with Faye either, but she is a lot more interesting than him. And I'm not an Atreus hater either, the boy already shared the main spot for 2 whole games, we don't need this franchises revolving around him, Faye at least is still a fresh thing.

All in all, Kratos should be the main character and that's it, but I'm at least more hopeful for this game based on the current rumors than the old rumors about Atreus.

Atreus will come back, he left so he can come back, but hopefully when he does he'll be a good plot device and a side character, rather than the main character.

Yeah, we kind of got the wrong impression of Tyr because of his situation, plus his world traveller era would be a very different situation in itself and more interesting that way. There's a lot more to mine from him.

And we already had some time to play as Atreus, whereas Faye has only been a flashback so far, making her fresh and interesting.

Usually I'm not a fan of prequels because they feel like going over things we already know, but this seems interesting to me.

We definitely still know too little of both Tyr and Faye.

The way we discover Faye knew the exact details of the journey to the giants realm in the first game, that we took out the trees she marked so things could get in motion (GoW 4 literally starts with that), and what we get added on about her, like fighting Thor (to the point of creating a frozen lighting just like when Kratos fought him as well), or that Brok and Sindri respected her so much they did the Levianthan axe to her, rivaling their work with Thor'a Mjolnir. Faye definitely had an eventful life and a lot of influence we never got to see.

Same about Tyr, people of all realms loved Tyr, he traveled the world meeting other cultures and even incorporating them in his fighting styles, he was trying to do a proper god of war work, but much more than that, like hiding the giants travel gate to help protect them from Odin (which very much means he worked together with Faye on that and likely other things), and we got to see he even challenged Valhalla too like we do in the DLC and was already at that self awareness point Kratos is now after doing it himself.

Both Faye and Tyr did so much we have never seem and just heard a few things about. Atreus is now doing such a thing himself, traveling and likely will result in him becoming a far different character that he was. I have already had him by my side for like 150 hours tho, I'm definitely not craving for more about him right now, I would even say Freya also has a lot more I would like to see before being focused on Atreus again, so I hope she does stick by Kratos side.

This is apparently Cory Barlog's next game, so I'm onboard whatever he decides to make.

But, seeing so much conversation about how GoW isn't GoW without Kratos, I have to admit that I am less enthused about playing as Faye or even Tyr than I would Atreus. I think it logically makes sense that we see more of Atreus since the GoW universe now naturally expands with his adventures because of his link to some hanging threads from Ragnarok. I think that makes more sense than having a rougelite sounding title where Atreus is stuck in Hades (I'm not even sure how this functions as a live service unless it was live-service adjacent with content drops like some episodic title).

Either way, that expansion of GoW I think is pretty neat, and I am curious how it is handled. But at the same time, I hope Sony SM is looking at non-GoW stuff at the same time.
